The only thing that seems to motivate people.

If morals where cheap everyone would have them. I would be willing to bet that very few of these people that buy 2K2 lights online EVERY consider where they came from. They just "got them".

The world works in mysterious ways.

Its a tough call, and just because they are on ebay, does not mean that they are stolen. They look new, but you should ask this guy some key questions. Such as, where is the wiring harness? Ask if he has clips, or even the original packaging? If you are unsure what to ask, search for threads concerning the topic...there are plenty.

back to the original topic...i dont think these are stolen...tabs look good, and the seller has good feedback, and has been on ebay for sometime. so far from what i've seen, the stolen lights have come from sellers that are newbie's, selling **** for the first time...my 0.02

so true if he does look for another cheap set on ebay while you walk outside noticing yours are missing. Then you will see the point we are making here.

this one does look more legit than most. tabs look intact, brackets all seem to be there. there are even bulbs - most of the ones i've seen lack bulbs.

it's possible this person bought a set from the dealer, then decided he couldn't keep them, or was a big dork and thought they'd fit his honda or something. there are legit reasons to have a new pair to sell.

i can't imagine anyone with a stolen pair trying to sell them as new - it would be pretty difficult to pull that off, as the act of stealing them would most certainly make them look a little used.

[tangent] Has anyone devised a way to deter HID theft yet? Do we have any workable ideas? [/tangent]

It is people like you that keep these thieves in business. And now that you have the HID's, don't be surprised if someone takes them from you. And if it happens, good luck trying to get the insurance to replace them without a legitiment receipt.

I would not buy them from Ebay, and sure would hate to find mine gone in the morning!

From the dealerships who got it, those would look new. Since that was a $100K+ hit, I'm sure that being in possession of one of those sets from that particular theft, would get your a$$ cooked. Would be hard to prove, unless the turd that sold them to you gave the authorities your name when he gets busted.

You'd have to be a turd to *knowingly* buy stolen lights. Its bad car karma and you get whatever comes your way in that regard.

The only thing that's been devised to deter HID theft are bolts sold by one of the members here. Do a quick search for "HID bolts" and you'll get the thread with the info. To summarize, they're not 100% effective. They simply make it harder for the person to steal them (it takes longer), and they cannot come away with an undamaged pair (unlike stealing them with no bolts, where they can get a clean pair with no damage). I believe the bolts were something like $15, and are quick to install.

Why don't you ask the seller where he got them from? If he gives you some BS explanation, then I would definitely not buy them. Of course, this is not a fool-proof method, but at least you'll get to hear the seller's side.

I also find it hard that people will end up with a "spare" set of HID lights--it just doesn't make much sense! Of course you'll have the dumbies that think they can fit them on their hondas or whatever, but how many of those people do you really know? Most would do reseach first before buying a set and then realizing that they don't fit, causing them to auction them off on EBAY.

Most likely, they were stolen either from another Max, or from a dealership or whatever (thus a new pair, but still stolen).

Someone will still spend big green on them, stolen or not. Good thing I'm not real down with the HIDs right now or I'd consider it. All that work for headlights.... I mean, it's freakin light, who cares how damn bright it is.

HIDs have a different pattern and better contrast.

another nice thing? They light up those refective strips on police cars (speed traps) like a mile away Its not the brightness that makes them reflect like that, its their color temp.

I care. Drive a car with them, then try to drive a car without them. You'll see what I mean.

I have a hard time beleiving that this pair is legit. Vito makes a good point, who would have an extra set lying around? My dealership got hit right after I bought my car. They stole about 20 pair in the middle of the night.

I haven't heard about the HID thefts on the board in a while, has it gotten better or just old news?

I'm so paranoid about my HIDs as well as dings and scratches that I hardly park my car anywhere that's not in eye shot. The beater car is for the train station and the malls

Spta, I'm just like you with being paranoid about dings/scratches/theft. Although I tend not to visit high-theft areas, I try my best to avoid putting my baby at risk!

I don't think the HID theft has gotten better, it's probably just old news or nobody on THIS board has been hit. The only time it'll get better is when all cars come with HIDs standard!

By the way, spta, how is your paint holding up? Are you able to avoid dings/scratches/paint chips?

As far as HIDs not being "that big of a deal", I think you, releasedtruth, is the first person I know who does NOT like them. Like spta said, try driving with them and then without them. One of my friends was saying the same things about how it's just lights and they don't matter that much are simply for looks, then he drove my car, and I didn't hear a word from him again!

Man, just how ignorant are you? You bought it even though you know there's a chance it might have been stolen? Look, I dont wish negativities on anyone but you need to learn a lesson. Where do you park your whip?
