rear brakes on 2000

I'm having trouble installing the rear brakes on my 2000 Maxima. Does anyone have suggestions on how to retract the plunger on the caliper?

Go to any automotive store to buy the tool. It is a square shaped tool. Just tell them what u are doing they will know what u are looking for.

i just use a pair of pliers - large pair of needlenose works - hold them open about an inch, insert them between two of the notches and turn.

they turn clockwise to tighten down, mine usually take about 3 revs to be all the way tight at brake-changing time.

keep in mind it takes some driving (ie: braking) for them to work back out. they don't re-adjust as quickly as the cylinders on the front after changing.

good luck!

brakes

omg it took me 2 days to change out the brake pads... :P but hey i changed it myself. if the piston doesnt go in with the c clamp twist it clockwise to get it in. open up the bleeder valve. if it still doesnt go in let it sit for a while :P come back and try again and itll eventually go in make sure you clean the brake parts with cleaner and get some anti squeal grease.. i didnt do that so i have squeaky brakes.

I have a large C-Clamp that I have used since the '70s for disc brake caliper retraction. Works good, get one.

If this is not your first brake change, make sure you drian the master cylinder. Many shops, especially dealers, fill the MC after a brake job to make sure the peda is hard... "a hard pedal is a good thing..." (whatever).

If you don't it aint too bad, the MC will pop and you will have brake fluid everywhere. It's only extremely corrosive.

I guess that means I can't drink a few cups of it, or rub it into my eyes, or pour it down my pants.

I have a clamp, but it does not work on the rear brakes. The new tool I purchased did the job. Thanks for your reply!
