I am going to have my wife buy a CAI for my xmas present....

I went to www.frankencar.com and i did not see any CAI on there whatsoever...

It is not a CAI. It is a short ram intake. I use it and many others too . I preffer it over Injen and place racing, which are CAI's....

frankencar is doing pretty good from what i hear, but i have heard a few complaints about customer service - it shouldnt bother you because i'm 100% positive its cause dmbmaxima is working on something new for us.

Yes FrankenCar is still in business. There customer service is great (atleast for me it was). Couple complaints here on the forum from other members that ordered their intake with the Apexi filter. (He can't help it if Apexi is laggin') I'm sure Steves on top of it. I agree with kloogy,i prefer it over any other intake.(but thats just me)

maybe I am going crazy...but did he not at one time sell CAI's??????

So you guys are saying these intakes are better than a PR CAI or an Injen CAI??

I thought CAI's were so much better cause they get down where the air is cooler, etc., etc....

thanks...

Well the cai's are better in the effect that they draw real cool air. And give better performance on the low, mid-range. But the downside is that you'll need to drill a hole in your fender and it's more of a hassle to clean the filter..

Do you have to drill a hole with all CAI's???

If that's the case...I think I'll go with the Frankencar...

No drilling is required with the Injen CAI.

I actually was a little worried about some of the posts I had seen about Frankencar. So, I called Steve to check on the shipment schedule a couple of days after ordering. It did take him 2 days to return call. But, the intake got here before his phone message. So, all is good. I think he has another job and does this on the side (from what I read). It took no more than a week to get the intake. So overall, I am very pleased. Now I just need to install it. I hope to be more than pleased then. From what I hear, my hope should turn into reality.

Couple of things I might mention. I got the plain silver intake, with the K&N filter. I think some of the shipping issues have been with the colored intakes and/or the Apexi filters. My only suggestion to Steve/Frankencar would be to maybe update his site with possible shipping dates for those parts. But as I said, I had a pretty good experience with them.

Injen filter sits right behind the radiator..... How cold can that air possibly be.... Want a true CAI, buy a Place racing , and drill a hole in your fender!

Actually klooger the filter is under the radiator on mine when it was installed which had no hot air blowing on it. There is a couple inches of pipr that a cool to the touch before the radiator starts blasting hot air on the piping. I do love my frankencar in the winter though

does anyone have any dyno tests using one or the other??

that would be the most convincing argument, I would say...

I have never really seen a true, unbiased, comparison between all of these intakes. People will even argue that a Dyno is not the correct way to test these since the air flow will be different from real world driving conditions.

I think if you did a dyno comparison between the two you would find the diffence neglegable.

The only thing that worries me about the Injen set up is that a few people have said that there is a loss of top end. I am not sure if this is due to the long length of piping or if it is related to the location of the filter. My $.02.

BTW I have a Berk midpipe.

Im not trying to start a Flame war . I just swear by something I have used. I have driven 6 speeds with Injen.. I v=cant feel the kind of difference that justifies $100 extra ! I have been through 3 intakes.. and chose Frankencar.. My .02

If you have a 2K-1 , its loud... If you have a 2K2-3, it sounds like a roaring bastard in your engine. I would never sell it.. Ask the Org members that were at the track with me today.. They were like .. " WTF is that in your motor "...

Yeah, thats what it sounds like. Its VERy hard not to stomp on the gas after 4K. You have no idea what a nice big six sounds like unless you have and intake!

One more thing to add, after putting on my frankencar, i drove around for a bit and then checked the motor to make sure all was OK> The fans were on, and some real hot air was blowing when the Injen filter would be. Just a thought...

Here's a link to a thread that you'd be looking for. Read the entire thread to hear the entire argument. Several variables were taken into account, including still air temp and driving air temp. After the test was complete, I knew these things for sure:

>I spent $50 too much for what I'm now using (the top pipe of the Place Racing CAI - essentially a Frankencar)
>I now have a 3.25" hole in my fender that will be welded back shut over the winter months (I kept the piece I cut out)
>The Frankencar sounds much better, and even the butt dyno says it yields better gains.
