VQ35DE rod bolts

I had a nice conversation with one of the Techs at NISMO this AM. I was asking about the difference between the VQ35 in the Z and the other applications. The only difference that he knew of was the rod bolts. The rod bolts in the Z are a different part number, they are stronger than the ones in the Max/Alty. He also though that ARP might have some that would work also.

He was quite sure that a VQ35 could push out in excess of 400HP with out any problems. The pistons are pressure cast which is better than regular cast but not as good as forged, they should hold up well as long as detonation dosent get too severe. The rods are the same in the 350Z and the Max/Alty and they are stronger then the VQ30.

I wonder if the pistons from the VQ30DET are also pressure cast?

Guess: I think the VG30DETT and VQDET pistons are factory forged?

According to the Nissan parts catalog, the rod bolts are the same on all VQ35s. Hmm. I wonder if he was thinking of VQ30 vs VQ35, cause they are different.

I'll check the injector #'s in the morning- I must admit I'm really perplexed as to why the 350Z makes so much more power from all the same parts! I do have a Maxima/Altima VQ35 injector in stock, it has the same physical dimensions as the VQ30 injector.

Well, the trusty 'ol parts catalog is offering some suprises this morning- The "Z" injector is actually a different part # than the VQ35 Max/Alt/Murano injector- But guess what it's the SAME as-

-'00-'01 Maxima VQ30 (hiya kevin!)
-'00-'01 Sentra SR20DE
-'00-'01 Pathfinder VQ35

Hmm- The parts guy is confused!

Very interesting.

Does anyone know the cc of the 00'-01' injectors? or the 02'03' Max/Alty injectors?

00-01 are 240cc I believe. I thought SR20DEN said the 02-03 were bigger and similar to LS1 injectors. I could be wrong though.

350Z = 287hp, because of the ECU, exhaust system, and intake manifold. I don't think 32hp is that hard to squeeze out of the VQ35.

The Z injector is indeed a different number. If it's the same part number as the SR20DE injectors that means it uses the Saturated 'disc' style (more expensive). The Altima and Maxima (VQ35DE and QR25DE) do not use saturated injectors(fuel rail runs through the center of the injector). They are the more industy mainstream peak and hold (pinel, fuel rail connects to the top of the injector) style but a newer version. These 'thin' injectors are used in LS1's and LS6's. You could probably slap in any aftermarket set of Mustang injectors (24 lb+) since they're so readily availible, the injectors are physicaly larger but should fit fine.
