Maxima Transmission

I just bought a Nissan Maxima. I was wondering if anyone knew the difference in transmission between the Altima and the Maxima (in the Autos). Does the Altima have smaller gear ratios? And if anyone can answer why the altima being a larger vehicle maintains similar 0-60 times with a HP rating @240 HP. Thanks

that's a biiiggg can of worms

short answer, there is some buzz about our cars being overrated. other than that, it seems as if maxima is, on average, slightly faster.

If you look at the specs for both cars, the Altima IS larger in:

Width - .1"
Height - 1.3"
Wheel base is longer
Front head room - .3"
Rear head room - .2"
and Rear leg room - .2"

in other categories it is either equal or slightly less than the Max.

Larger body doesnt mean u need a different tranny.

Same engine, same tranny. Even 4th gen tranny fits 2k and 2k1 engine.....(I dun think they want to throw in more money to R&D another tranny for Altima)

Hey, MAXI, does this perhaps imply that

the sweet 5-speed from the Gen5 can be mated to the 3.5 liter of the current six-speed models?

Now there's the fix for graunching 6-speed trannies and their God-awful cable linkage....

hmmmmm....I know mingo is trying to convert his auto 3.0 to 6spd. I bet there will be a lot of work but it is possible. I dont know much about going the other way around.

VQ30DE-k and VQ30DE are pretty much the same engine....ours have the VI and theirs have more aggressive cam. that's why their tranny is interchangeable.

yeah, the Altima is bigger, that's why Nissan had to lie about the Maxima's horsepower rating to justify it's higher price...for a smaller car with a sh!ttier rear suspension, and worse resale value...

get in an altima, and your surrounded by luptuous cheap plastic...but it's new style and large size tends to keep resale value up...compared with Maxima...

sorry...me whoring a thread again...
