gawd, my maxima sucks sometimes...
when the temp falls below freezing...
this morning it was 20 degrees... I start the car, and it misses like crazy for 5-10 secs. I let it warm up to the normal rough idle it has. (3 dealer visits on this). I back out with plenty of traffic room to spare, but the car stumbles and I almost get rearended by a jeep cherokee. I carefully ease into the gas more (carefully cause its still alittle cold) and the car really doesnt move because the tranny wants to slip until its warmed up.
As I start to drive, the rattles are louder than the radio. Soon, the cabin warms up and most of the rattles subside.
Then I turn on my flasher to make a turn and my relay starts squealing like a pig (new relay at dealer, but they want 4 hrs to take out the dash to replace it AND ITS SOCKETED NEXT TO THE FUSE BOX - I could do it in 10 secs!!!! and no rental btw). I get to work, the turn around to go out for an errand... Now my bell/dinger thingy has and echo when I start the car. I guess its going out now. You know the one thats chimes when you start. That will be another 4 hours at the dealer.
I wont complain about the rotors as I wasnt on the interstate to feel the vibe - and it hasnt really gotten that bad yet. I loosened what the dealer service did on the rotate and retorqued the lugs to the proper ft-lb, I think I caught it before it got bad.
Nothing but the best gas, all the routine mx, drive it gingerly 99% of the time... ahhh, just other day with the max. Time to check my resale again.

My rear brakes start squeaking loudly until they warm up in the winter.
I also have to let the car fully warm up before I can operate it normally. It is very sluggish in the 0-10 degree morning weather.
And lastly the light on the switch for my heated seat went out already! The passenger light is fine but mine went out!

yeah...
as minor as that seems, it really worries me when relays and illuminator lights start going out. maybe they changed to a cheaper vendor. just does not give me that 'quality' feeling..
Really?
Have your car looked at. I live in Colorado, it gets cold here sometimes and I haven't had any stumbling or tranny probs yet. Do you garage your car? Maybe that is why I don't see probs cause I garage it.

You have many more miles on your car than I have on mine....I shudder to think what is next with this Voodoo mobile....I like to laught on the KBB value..I punch in all my info and it tells me what I should expect from the dealer in a trade....heh...its more than I paid for the car brand new........and yes, I did not add options that are not on the car
Example of how cheap they have become...friend of mine who has a 98 was checking out the car....first thing he notices is ..."where is the rug lining om the trunk?" "Plastic just gets cheaper and cheaper in these cars"
I agree...sounds like you car is having boocoo problems...moreso than my car...at least the engine is still strong..."knock on plastic" Rattle do suck...I love having people ride in the car...Whats with all the noises? Just explain to them...Nissan quality my friend...Nissan quality.
Great selling point for them don't you say? But nimrods like myself keep on buying em

I'm sure your dealer will address the problems that you have. Good Luck!
Mine has around 26K, but I don't have the problems you have. For mine, it's the creaks, a funky driver's door window switch and the TCM.
If I had your problems and dealer experiences, I probably would've sold the car and eaten a couple grand or maybe set it ablaze in the dealer lot.
The reason I'm not more pissed off is because I had low expectations of the Max to begin with, but it's still better than the 14 year-old Sentra that it replaced!

Yeah
that day is coming soon....so close to 2000 models though, I'm afraid it would be more than a couple of grand
I think my biggest problem is that I came out of a 91 Celica GTS that gave me zero problem except when I started to put close to 100k on it...then an ill advised uturn ended that cars life...
Oh well..like I said above, most of my problems are superficial compared to what appears to be whats plauging Tim's wheels....
Doubt I'd buy brand new again...(I always say that )

...jump on the bandwagon
I feel like a traitor writing this, but I have had my 2K1 AE for barely a month. I have not experienced any of the problems I read about here. However, I am not thrilled with the ride characteristics. I know I have 17" wheels, but darn it, my 93 SE 5spd rides smoother. I have what I think is too much vibration coming through the pedeal and seat. I have had the dealer service dept. check out my tires. I bought the car with 85 miles, about 70 of which were to drive it from the dealer in Ky and read on the placard that it had been manufactured in July 2000. I thought perhaps it had some flat spots, out of balance, etc. They didn't claim that the tires were out of balance but did adjust pavement pressure (didn't know of such a thing). I'm about to call them and tell them to check it again, and at the same time, drive another to see if it is just me or it really is the car.
Anyone else out there with 17" wheels and 5spd running the Bridgestone Potenzas experience harsh rides? Or is this "just the way it is?" I'm thinking about different tires, but that is a lot of money to throw at a problem. Any advice, appreciated! Scott

I have an SE and thought the same thing when I got mine. The dealer let me drive 2 other SE's and they had the same ride. It is just the tighter suspension I think. I drove a GLE later on and it was a bit smoother. I think it is more a suspension thing than your tires

Well I have the 16"" wheels with the Toyos and my ride is stiff and choppy also. For the first week I had the car I couldn't get over how crappy the ride was....checked my air pressure...50 psi in each tire!! Holy Crap! No wonder it stunk

Even after that the ride felt busy.....a few months ago I had the dealer balance the tires and now the car rides a lot smoother....not great but not like I'm riding in a 76 Chevy Vega either

Are you talking about the buzz that you feel in the gas pedal? I have that also...feels like one of those hand buzzers
Bugs the crap out of me but I've been told by others that it is exhaust related.......anyone else experience thsi extra dd on feature of Maximas?
