Make sure you keep at least a distance of 2 or so inches between the Homelink unit and the transmitter you're trying to program in. Don't hold it too close.

is the device that you are trying to control uses a rolling code security? if so, you need to teach the device to accept the HL's rolling code feature. I taught my garage door opener by pressing down & holding a HL button and then press and release a smart button on the opener.

My garage has a "rolling-code" that changes codes everytime you close the garage. Its almost the same technology used on ours keys. Heh, my HomeLink works at a greater distance than the Transmiter that came with the garage motor. Make sure whether or not your garage has a "rolling-code" feature and follow the directions for programming the HomeLink on the card that SHOULD be in your glove compartment. If it still doesn't seem to work, you might be heading towards the dealers in the near future!
Good Luck,

Rolling Code

Thank you everyone for responding. I got my Homelink to work. I did not realize I had a rolling code on my garage door opener.
