y2k 5spd question
#1
Im currently driving a 99 se with a few mods, and until yesterday was quite content with it. (almost paid for). Then I rolled in the local nissan showroom and saw this metallic blue 2k1 se. Well i was quite impressed with it and all the little things they have added like the perforated leather, stainless steel sills etc etc. My main concern is this: when i took posession of my 99 I noticed that there was a whirring or grating (hard to describe) when i started off from a stand still. My dealer said it was normal because the flywheel was grooved (like a record). I dunno if i buy that but i would like to know that this was resolved in the 5th generation. Thanks in advance.

5speed grating sound
Haven't heard of it before. Certainly never experience it with mine. FYI Stillen makes a replacement flywheel good for a about 6 HP and the engine is s'posed to rev alot better. I prolly pop it in with the SC next Spring. Stay tuned.

Where did you see that blue 01 Max??
From what you are describing it sounds like you were looking at the 20th Anniversary Limited Edition Maxima. I live in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and was wondering if the dealerships already started receiving their allotments of the 20th Anniversary Edition maximas.

I just got my 2k 5-speed SE on Friday, and I think I noticed a similiar symptom. Right when you are engaging the clutch, and the car is just starting to move, the rpm drops a little ,it seems like the clutch is almost chattering, but not that bad. I had thought it was mostly cause my car was so new & tight, and silent & smooth, that any little thing would attract attention. The car is so fantastic and flawless, I was hoping that this minor thing would resolve itself with mileage! Reagards, David Burnette, South Point Nissan

I posted before about this same exact topic. The clutch seems to 'chatter' when engaging slowly into 1st. Seems this seems relatively common, it has to be the clutch disk itself. I wouldn't worry about this. I've learned to be quick off the clutch (while still engaging smoothly) and don't notice the chatter.
