Best mod...Michelin Pilot Sport A/S

My 2k2 is all stock. At 15k it's been to the dealer three times because the tires would not balance. I got a constant shimmy no matter the road conditions or speed. At times it drove me nuts! I opted to get new Potenza's since they were spec for the car, but you beatiful people talked me out of it.
The service man at the dealer pulled me aside and said to go with michelins as well, and get the 235/50 17". I went to Costco's and got a set installed with lifetime rotation and balance for $926.
It's like driving a new car again. Peace!

If new Z-rated Michelins don't get you smiling, NOTHING WILL! Congrats on a choice well made.

alternative high performance tires

I have Bridgestone Potenza S-03's (215/55/16) on my 2001 GXE 5-speed, and they have transformed my MAX into a sporty car. I paid $159 each at a local Redding America's Tire Company, because they threw in Enkei 16" 17.5 pound RS5's for $95 each (free mounting and balancing for the combo). Tirerack quoted me $134 each for the same tires. Of course the 30, 35, 40, 45, and 50 series tires are more expensive. I considered the Michelin Pilot Sports, but they are more expensive. And I read practically all the customer reports (many hundreds) posted at Tire.rack.com, and the comparison test reviews posted that compared these two tires as well as the top performing Pirelli tire (also at Tirerack), and the S-03's seemed to get better reviews, as well as being a bit cheaper as Michelin charges the highest prices for their tires due to their advertising and reputation. And I also checked tire reviews at other web sites run by independent organizations, as of course one company can be biased. I can attest that in dry and wet conditions, the S-03's are relatively quiet, have excellent grip, and will not hydroplane. Of course these high performance tires are crappy on snow or ice, but Redding CA rarely gets any snow. I only have about 4000 miles on them, and they seem to be wearing fine, the tread doesn't seem to have worn at all.

I was not sure what to expect moving to the 235/50 17". The low profile look goes out the window, in return you get a more aggressive looking tire/wheel.
