Sorry, Dixit. A 235mm wide tire will fit properly on a 7.0" wide rim provided the aspect ratio is 50 or higher.

That's true, for a 45 series tire. A 235/50/17 in in spec for a 7" rim. A 235/45/17 is not.

Gentlemen, gentlemen . . .
Apparently we're having a great deal of difficulty reading specification charts. So let's everybody SLOW DOWN and take it from the top.
Begin by proceeding to the Tire & Rim Association Contour (Rim Width) Charts I referred to in my previous post. I'm not going to post a link. If you guys can't find it, you deserve to believe whatever you want to believe.
Proceed next to the rim width specifications for the 225/45R17 tire. Everybody find it? Good. What are the acceptable rim widths for the 225/45R17 tire? Write them down here:

Next, take a look at the acceptable rim widths for the 235/45R17 tire. Got it? Write them down here:

Finally, check out the acceptable rim widths for the 235/50R17 tire. Write those down here:

Any further questions?

Y2KSE I agree with you there, I think we just miscommunicated on the series of the tire. Because technically if you go 235 you should go 45 to compensate and keep the speedo closer to be accurate. 235/50 would make it a bit more off.
That is why I assumed when you said 235, you also meant a 45 series. Plus he orinially asked in the post about a 45 series tire.
