Tired of FrankenCar Posts?

Sorry, one more. I asked for the Intake be sent overnight with NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED and of course I wasn't home and had to wait until today to get it. After being ****ed all weekend, I'm delightfully happy now. First off, the Apexi filter is by FAR a better made filter than the K&N. I could see right through the K&N and it only has about 5k miles on it. I now know how shotty the Berk intake is. FrankenCars MAF adapter's are top notch! With the Berk and the FrankenCar midpipe I had a terrible resonance around 5500 rpm's and the engine sounded loud and about to blow up. After installing the FrankenCar with Apexi filter that resonance hits at around redline and doesn't sound like the cars going to blow up. Steve, thanks for the high quality components! A bit of advice. Make sure you have a deep 11mm socket handy. I had a every mm except 11mm and tightening the intake with a crescent wrench sucks, but I had no choice. The only negative thing about the FrankenCar intake is the support bracket. It pushes the Apexi too close to the strut tower and actually the filter is butted up against a metal thingy on the strut tower.

One question: I received an insert which I'm sure is supposed to go between the MAF adapter and the MAF, but it in no way lines up. Is this normal? I just didn't use it.

Glad you finally got rid of that noise. One quick thing, you dont need the bracket really, its mainly there for people's peace of mind. I havent had mine on for months and I've had no problems.

And what did the insert look like? Got any pics?

I installed the bracket and it fit perfectly. I have K&N filter and it doesn't touch anything at all. Intake is very secure with that bracket.

It looks like a foam bushing that is supposed to go in between the MAF and the FrankenCar MAF attachment. I'm sure it was for a tighter seal, but the screw holes were in no way going to line up with any of the MAF holes.

The whole assembly is pretty tight, but I was unsure of how much the engine moves under WOT. If I don't put the bracket in the assembly fits much better.

I wouldnt worry about it then. Just make sure all your tubes and clamps are on really tight and you should be just fine. My entire intake is almost dead straight and doesnt lean down or anything.

The gasket insert is supposed to be used between the Apexi filter and the aluminum adapter.

I'll compare the Injen and Frankencar as I've had both.

what is quieter? Injen

what is cheaper? Frankencar

what is easier to install? Frankencar

what is more powerful? Frankencar

and add to all questions "BY HOW MUCH?" Frankencar beats it in every aspect except looks IMO.

thanks for the help...

What he said! And no chance whatsoever of your engine dying due to water. It hasn't happened to anyone on the org yet, but there's always a chance down that low. Your filter will also need to be cleaned often, which requires you to uninstall part of the intake. Only thing the Ingen has over FrankenCar is the looks. FrankenCar's intake does look good, but the Injen is puuuurrrrrdy.
