Just got my windows tinted...

35% from the best shop in my area...but the thing is they didn't tint my windshield. i'm very upset, and i think it makes the entire tint look like ****. so what i wanna know is: has this happened to anybody else? should i just get the windshield tinted seperately, if it's even legal? or what should i do, i just need some advice, i'm very ****ed off that they didn't tint it, totally ruined my day

[/rant]

Thanks,
Wind

nobody tints the windshield unless requested. I know that it is illegal in many states to tint the windshiled more than several inches from the top.

I got my whole car done in AT 10 a couple of weeks ago. The guy who did it has done all of my other cars, sp he knows me fairly well, but to get the front windsheild tinted, you have to ask-and its an extra $10.

Major No-No to tint windshield dang-near everyWhere!!

You can find guys who'll do it, but you'll get pulled over by the man for your troubles and get a sizable ticket!!

I'm at 15% all around (except the screen) and it still doesn't look right to me.

Some shops will add a polarizing film to the 'screen for a glare reduction effect - but you're better-off not worrying yourself.

If you really want more dark -- darken to your state's maximum tint (usually 20-30%).

I was ****ed too!!!

I got 20% tint all the way around and 41% tint on my windshield.
I dont have any issues seeing out at night whatsoever. Dont believe me, ask a few of the .org members that have been in my car.

I have 35% tint, but I've seen a picture of a max with 'executive style 35% tint" and it looked kind like it had a mirrory reflection on the outside, but it didn't look like the ricey chrome... it was kind of executive style...

anyone ever hear of this? I would like to get that in liu of my current tint... maybe I would have to order the film and have it put on professionally?

Thanks

I have that tint in 35%, its a platinum type that's mirror-reflective, but not ricy-chrome-looking in style. Llumar was the brand my tinter used. Looks pretty good during an outcast-cloudy type of day, but when its sunny, you can still see inside from far away. When you get closer, its hard to see because of the reflection, unless you stand and look in on a certain angle. I wish I got 18% which was the next level down, but I didn't want to worry about getting a ticket at the sametime. It still looks good tho. Check out the site I got it from. llumar tint

Would I have to order this and have them put it in, or should I ask for it?

Anyone know of any good tint shops in Western MA? I've dealt with Mr. Tint, but I am looking for someone else now..

Well, being that I live on Long Island, I got it done there. If you do find a shop, ask if they use Llumar. I'm sure the other brands like Madico have their variations. Just make sure you ask for the platinum tint, otherwise you may find that chrome looking stuff on your windows!

Good Luck!

Actually, there are only a few states that do not allow tinting of the front windshield. Check the laws out at Gila films I was going to get the windshield done but, it looks like it would be a pain for them to get it right.

true that few states dont' allow windshield tinting at all, but none allow it completely, it's either a specified 2-5" or just the AS1 strip across the top. i guess illegal is the only way to go but my max sure would look good with all of it tinted, black w/ black leather

No pain to get it right. Not if done at the right shop. Mine was done in ONE piece just like the rear window. You cant tell the windshield is tinted at all. And you dont have to pay to get it done right.

MY whole car with the windshield tinted was $160 with 3% limo on the sunroof. If you want 100s of pics to prove this was a pro job, let me know.

Sorry, i didn't catch on that you wanted the whole windshield tinted. It might look good but i do not understand why you would even want that done. Never mind the safety issues that arise. I feel anyone with the entire front windshield tinted should be pulled over and have there car towed for being a threat to the public. Just my $.02

BidDogJonx, i would like to take a look at a few pics. I just didn't know how it would turn out around the rear view mirror. My e-mail is maxse03@bellsouth.net

There are few pics on there. I can take more if you want. But it needs to be taken during the day. When I got the windshield tinted, I just removed the rearview mirror off and he cut around it and put it on still in one piece. No slit in it to get around the rearview mirror holder.

Any cop who pulls someone over for a slightly tinted window needs to get knocked out.

You should be careful of any type of mirror tint. Some of this tint has a thin metalized layer in it that provides some problems with radio reception and some proximity falsing(aftermarket alarms).I have 17% on my Maxima and does just fine. Not sure of the manufacturer but can find out.
