Calling Max that raced GTP today in Houston

Calling that 02 or 03 Max that "raced" a GTP on Jones Road in Houston about 4pm today (New Year's Eve). No dissing, just wanted to compare notes. I'll have to replace my GTP in about a year so I'd like to compare what we were running.
No flames guys, I like the Max. Both cars have their advantages.

Just curious to know, what happened?
Did you race from a roll or was it heads up stoplight from 0-to whatever? Who won?

It was a 30-mph roll or so. I won, but only by a car length or two. I have a 97 GTP sedan (all GTPs are automatic) that is stock except for the so-called U-bend replacement (takes a kink out of the exhaust). He was a 02-03 GLE with 18" rims. I was going to punch it from the light but frankly my torque breaks the tires loose at anything under about 20, and the cops were definitely out and about. It was on a divided blvd, 3 lanes each direction. At the end, some goober in an old Prelude pulled out from a side street all the way over into my (fast) lane. I barely missed him, and got a reminder that street racing is not smart when driving cars that can hit 90+ so fast! I'm way old enough to know better. There are too many idiots out there who either don't look or can't judge speed and distance, and will dawdle right into your path. The conditions could not have been more clear and free from obstruction. Moron.

Anyway I have rented Maxes before and like them, but of course the stupid rental companies always fill them with dirty-dishwater 87 octane crap gas, so it's hard to tell how fast the AODs really are by driving a rental. I know the manuals are fast!

Yeah Russ..no GTP could beat those blazing 15 second runs you made before the headers. Wait..i forgot all the excuses you used about those runs.

nice kill man. Auto maxes and GTP's are very equal straight line (his disadvantage was his big wheels). Anyway, good luck when you start shopping for your car next year. Go Japanese or German, much better interiors than American counterparts

Dammit VQMAN, when in the hell are you gonna come over and join the Kansas City Maxima group? There's ~14 of us in the metro area. We need a 5th gen in the group seeing that we're all 4th gens and 3rd gens. We're not too dorky. Have you seen my car (look at my homepage)? I live in Overland Park.

As for the GTP at KCIR, no one ever believes me in this Org that pullied and modded GTPs typically run 14.5-14.8@94-95mph at KCIR. On the same night, I'm pretty much neck and neck with the 3.4-3.5" pullied GTPs with intake and exhaust work. They kill me off the line, but I almost always reel them in after the 1/8.

Look us up in the Midwest forum. We're always doing something every month or two.

so tell me dude...have you been losing to CL-S's in your own CL-S or have you been lining up your own cars and racing them against each other?

Now now Sprint, you know russ has to make a comment about everything here. Seeing he is a "veteran" and all. Everything he says must be right or it's just stupid or wrong. How dare we argue with Russ.

He has more bling bling spent on cars then anyone else I know.

Interesting...

That's right where I live, off of Jones Rd. Unfortunately, it wasn't me. However, I did race one about 6 months ago. A green one on feeder of Beltway 8 and Gessner area. I barely took him (to about 100) and I'm auto-tragic stock. I have much respect for em', though. Very modable.

What color is yours? I'm gonna be lookin for ya now!

I think Maximus ran like 14.2 at 99mph in stock 6-speed Max. I remember seeing other people with 99+ trap speed with 6-speed Max.

I don't know if he is on the board anymore though.

There's a guy with a 6 speed Max in the West (Arizona/Nevada) that ran a low low 14 at over 100mph with just a K&N filter panel. I can think 3 6 speeds that have trapped 99+mph with pretty minimal mods.

I did get into it with a Blue GTP here in IL but it was on a roll. Let's just say it was one of my first kills with the '02.

With that said, I can't trip on GTPs too hard because I thought about getting one in the not too distant past (Circa 1999).

I have run 2 CL-S and one TL-S, beat all three, One of the CL's was a 6sp the other an auto, the 6sp run .....he got the jump on me, but my max "out torqued" him, and I ended up close to 1 car ahead around 75mph.

Can we set up some sort of rule here:

If text = CL and or TL then DELETE POST

And all of you going back and forth with Russ about the CL/TL thing are doing nothing but feeding him. Just let him babble and it will quite down faster.

Wow, looks like I really started something.
Hey Chazmax, nice car. I'm probably going some shade of silver with my next car. Mine's a green 97 GTP sedan, but it wasn't me on the access road. I rarely get into those scuffles at my advanced age (41) but do enjoy teaching fartcan hondas a lesson in physics now and then. There are several of us GTPs around the Jones Rd area.
Thanks for the comment, MichaelAE. Every car forum has its extremists.
And thanks for the respect to the GTP that some gave... If you check out the GP forums there are some amazing time slips from those willing to spend a little mod money. There are a few in the twelves without NOS, and many with over 100 traps.
No, I've never taken mine to the track. Back in the day I used to prowl around Westheimer outside the Beltway in a black Formula 350, along with a buddy in a red Corvette, but I'm now the family man that flies under the radar.
Not to change the thread, but used to, when you beat somebody in a street race, they gave you props with a thumbs up or something. Seems like by the mid 90's they just started being ****ed off you beat them. Too many nutcases out there determined to prove their manhood with a pistol if necessary these days.
Not the max driver I ran against though, he just kept going.

DROD has one of the fastest GTPs with his bolt ons on that forum. Me and him have had our share, lets just say, hheheeh too close.
