Wow...quite lucky too that your front glass stayed intact. I trust you are phyisically OK now?

It happened around 9:00 p.m., Friday, July 18, 2003. I was traveling on Jewel Ave towards Queens Blvd. A Toyota came off Van Wyck Expressway onto Jewel Ave. ran a red traffic light, hit my car on the front passenger side.

Made it out without a scratch...I'm damn lucky.

PCGuru...I can't believe you totalled your car too, it was so hot when I last saw it, and from the pics it looked like it got even hotter. What happened?

Technically I didn't have a traffic accident but a big *** oak tree fell on my car. Hope to get it back next week after $12K repair paid by comprehensive insurance.

Some of us must really love the Max because we total one and get one very similiar, I probably would to as I love my 03. Isnt the Glacier Pearl a tight looking color in the sun?

I did in my 2000 Max. Slight fender bender but ins. co. painted both front and rear bumpers...no more stone chips! I was also side swiped in my '89 Toyota truck and received damage to one of my discs in my back. Still suffering to this day

I wonder how that was...did you have to chase them?

As for me, backed into someone in my '83 CJ-7 going the wrong way in a parking lot.

Was rear-ended at a light in my '91 GXE...no damage. Dumb people don't know that a snowy road increases your stopping distance.

Just the other day at 3AM I ran into a deer, now that sucks. Haven't recieved the estimate yet, but the damage looks rather cosmetic. The deer hit pretty high up, about where the hood meets the grille and got deflected to the passenger side so no windshield damage. I think the radiator is finished though. Hopefully they can get it back to the way it was. One thing is for sure though, I now better appreciate the Max since ny rental is an '03 Cavalier.

Darned tootin I chased them down. If my rates are going to go up just for the simple fact that I make a claim to fix my car, I'll be damned if they are going to get off scott free. I will make every effort to chase them down and make them pay, and I did. Once my car has been damaged by someone else it becomes a no-holds-bar to chase them down and I WILL catch them. The last person who ran was drunk and thought he could outrun me (he was in a 4th gen maxima), he dodged thru traffic and took an overpass at the last instant. I flew around that overpass at 90+ and crawled up his **** so quick it wasn't funny. He then realized there was no getting away from me and then tried driving normal hoping I would go away. Little did he know the cops were already on their way. If it wasn't for the cops there would have been a very good fight had I cought up to him, he had a blackjack and I had my beater.

Yep.. Monday night at a church meeting an older gentleman (70+) backed out of a driveway and glanced the driver's front side of it. I got all of the scuffs out of the fender, scratches out of the clear corner but not out of the light. There is also a spot about 2" long and .25" wide that removed the paint on the bumper cover. NOT worth turning into the insurance for than. I am looking for a driver's side headlight assembly for a 2k/2k1. Oh well....

As for the 99 Icelandic Pearl SE we owned perviously, I backed it out of the driveway and tagged a friend's grand spam.. did not hurt the spam but did $1900 of damage on the Max.....ouch!

I've always wanted to hear a good chase story...in case I ever have to do the same. We know the police can give chase...clearing everyone out of the way with sirens&lights and even using the car as a battering ram; but the weapons of a civilian are quite different.

5th gen vs. 4th gen, idiot should have known. This is when it really pays to have the faster car.

By law in Texas it is my duty to do verything in my power to get the other drivers information. (even if I have to beat it out of him ;-) ) If you want all of the details send me an email or PM. The drunk driver one is actually somewhat entertaining looking back at it now, then I was a posessed mad man on a mission. My passangers got a ride they will never ever forget!

some moron in a 1970s 20 foot long stationwagon rammed me from the rear. I was standing in traffic and i saw the guy approaching me from the back through the rearview. I watched him come closer and closer and i thought, "hmm, he should be braking any second now.." then i finally realized he wasn't going to stop in time and saw i had no where to go so i prepared for the impact.. he hit me and i flew forwards, i jumped out and the guy jumps out too crying and appologizing, shaking... I look at my car, it was dirty as hell at the moment and i was running late for work so i saw nothing at 1st, maybe a couple of scuffs added to my already beat up typical "NYC" bumper.. so i made sure him and his passanger were ok and i was like "don't worry about it.." and left..
later i washed it and saw imprints from his stupid *** bumper, they have those 2 fangs, or bumper guards that left imprints on my Stillen rear valance and bumper, along with his license plate frame imprinting on my bumper aswell.. few nice scratches too.. oh well, that wasn't bad and it's expected in New York. I've had people hit me in the rear 3 or 4 times in the last couple of years.. kind of used to it.

I have done stupid stuff with every one of my previous cars, but haven't as yet done anything to the 5th gen.

Unless scraping the bumper underside on a curb counts.

Yes, Rear-ended on the expressway while traffic was at a stop. Good thing I left a bit more room in front of me than usual. Woman hit me at 50+ was not paying attention. She never said a word either. She called her husband, I called the cops.

Did $8,000 woth of damage to my 2K1 max. (needed $12K to total). Bonus was that the shop painted my stillen sides and rear for nothing. So I gave them a nice tip. Car runs and looks great, you cannot tell what had happened.

I was waiting to get clobbered by a semi after she hit me. She actually hit me 2X. Once in the right rear quarter, it broke her front axel and caught her tire on mine, spun her car around so she could hit me again in the front right fender witht he nose of her crappy 80's cavalier.

We both had state farm so it did not cost me a dime. Had a rental for a month!

It still blows though, but the best part is not a bump or scratch or sore neck on me at all, was just really shaken, and paranoid for a while.
It put a lot of faith into the structural integrity of the max, had I been in a smaller el-cheapo, well I do not think I could have made that claim.

There was no frame damage?

That's not likely at 50mph

Even though it's old, i'll add mine. Got rear ended going to a high school playoff game at Texas Stadium(where the Cowboys play), guy had an Acura, and was lower than my rear bumper, got the bumper fixed up just 2 weeks ago now(thanks to that guys State Farm Insurance ), but needless to say his car pulled into the parking lot overheating, and quite a beating on the front end.

Re:

Well some ****'n @** hole's bumper nicked the left side of the rear (near the mud flap), and took iff some paint. The next was someone driving the car down some small street, and some little kid came off the side walk with a bike, the driver (with-held not to offend him) stopped before the kid hit the car, and after the car came to a complete stop the kid hit the front right in the center. "There was no damage to the kid at all" but since this is America, they're sueing. Another was some jack was dreming and bumped into the back bumper, the damage is inly two small imprints of bolts from the licencelate.

Well I have 2 uncles that also had the 2000 Maxima.
One was going through an intersection and the other guy missed a stop sign, and "T"ed the car, well the car was totaled!

The other was on the prospect expresway, and right after the turn someones car was sitting there broken down, well they put out cones but that doesn't help when your coming around a turn and there's some-one on the side of your car. Well TOTALED! That gave him an excuse to get an 2002 6speed.

A good thing to do, put an airhorn in. You cn run it from the battery and put it on a realay and switch between BOTH HORNS, and THE STOCK HORN. This should be your next mod!

ive never had an accident...closest i came was in an ice/snow storm on the highway..driving 40 miles on snowy highway in a 5speed...fun. I got to my exit (which the roads werent bad, YET) my exit was unusually solid ice cars in front of me one slid sideways into the guardrail (old car) another one hit that car lightly on the 1st car's rebound, i stood on my brakes ABS working amazingly well, wheel straight, my car stopping slowly, than i looked back a car coming toward me, he came very close to hitting me i had JUST enough traction to speed up a few mph and prevent it. Very scary experience.

If not me then someone else...

You know guys if you don't hit anyone, someone might end up hitting you, no matter how carefull of a driver you are, sometimes you just can't escape it.
