Removing California Pre-Cat

So after discovering my car was put through California Emissions I was told that California adds a pre-cat to my car. Does anyone know what:

a. this means
b. how hard it is to remove it, if there is any point to it
c. how to remove it

Any help is greatly appreciated, flaming, however, is not.

I do believe both Fed-spec and Cali-spec cars have precats. One way to remove the precats is to buy an aftermarket Y-pipe, or have a muffler shop duplicate your factory Y-pipe without the precats, dimples, and creases.

Just make sure when you buy your Y-pipe, specify to the shop/store that you do have a Cali-spec vehicle.

The easiest way to remove the pre-cat is to buy an aftermarket y-pipe. You have several to choose from including cattman, budget, warpspeed, and stillen. So do the research and take your choice. They run anywhere from about $220 to $375. Please just do a search and see which one works best for you. If you ask which one you should get you will get a lot of the same answers as if you would do a search. Hope this helps.

Cali spec cars have one more precat than fed spec. Ask John how he got rid of his, because he did. I'm sure he'll help you out also.

it's too much trouble to remove the extra cat the cali spec cars have. the gains won't be worth it. IMO.

1. A Y Pipe will not remove the front precat. You cannot use the downpipe (small piece) from the Y pipe with Cali spec. This is why there are Cali spec Y pipes and Fed spec Y pipes. You will have to completely relocate the sensor which is a nightmare.
2. DesertPearl did this and it was a tremendous waste of time. Not only was it extremely difficult, but it also netted virtually no horsepower.
3. I saw you called today......whazzup!!?? I never answer that damn phone. I don't even look at it when it rings anymore. It's my work phone and clients call me all the friggin time. They can wait until Monday.

yep. I've tried it on two 2K1's as well - it's a waste of time on an NA car. Just get a Y-pipe and you'll be good to go.
