Any difference between 87 OCT gas and 93 OCT Gas?
I am the proud new owner of a 2001 Maxima. I also have a Acura Legend that I am in love with. Have any of you noticed a difference in the way your Maxima runs on 87 octane gas vs. 92/93 octane gas? When they gave me the new car, it had a full tank of 87 and its still in there-so ar, the car runs great.....
Premium all the way
I definitely notice better performance. I drove off the lot with 87 as well... my first tank of premium, I went "Whoa..."
Also, the cheap stuff can lead to problems down the road... "spark knock" I think it is?
Anyway, check out the FAQ's here there's more info on why you should use premium.
And welcome to the family!

Do a search on "octane", Revice. That'll give you a lot info. The search link is at the upper right hand corner of this page next to the faq link.

I believe the owner's manual calls for minimum 91 octane. The dealer fills them up with what ever is the least expensive. Ask yourself this question: " Do I want to pill up next to a v6 Camry or Accord running 87 octane?"

Ya.. of course there's a difference, one you CAN use in your Maxima, the other you CAN'T!!!
Your dealer should have given you 91+octane, because that's what the Maxima needs... There have been extensive discussion on this board about this before.. use the search function to find them...
Quick Summary :: Your engine has a knock sensor, which WILL ALLOW it to run on lower octanes by retarding engine timing.. TO my understanding this is a TEMPORARY solution, because your engine knocks anyway (it has to knock before the sensor will detect the knock... right??).. so putting 87 gas in, and letting it knock around is NOT good for your brand new car... Don't abuse it this way, and it will be good to you...

PS.. you can get 91 octane by mixing half 93 and half 89!!!
buying anything over 91 octane is just a waste of money... BUT, living in certain areas (like the northeast, where they JUST sell 93, 89, 87), I don't bother mixing, and just buy the 93...!!!
