y-pipe with stock muffler...........

is stock muffler efficient enough to evacuate the extra exhaust gas from ypipe? simply put, is stock muffler a bottle neck in regards to ypipe? thinking about getting a better muffler, please chime in........

The factory unit is pretty high flow itself. Your only losing about 1-2HP vs. a free-flowing aftermarket exhaust. If the louder rumble is important to you and you can live with it, go ahead and get one.

I agree with ScreamingVQ. I have the entire exhaust system upgraded except the muffler and only lost 1.2 hp (Cattman setup) I went that way because I did not want the loud muffler sound. I tried it but did not like it and sold the muffler part.

Besides, the factory muffler already gives off a nice quiet raspy rumble with the Intake/Y-pipe combo at low rpms, smooths out in the middle range and flat out rips at higher rpms. The B-pipe just amplifies it alittle more

I have this setup as well and I am very pleased with it. I had an aftermarket muffler before and it was wayyyy too loud. The stock muffler is plenty sufficient and I did not feel a bit of difference when I went back to using it.

thanks for the inputs, i'm not into that "loud" thing myself....if only losing 1-2hp with high flow muffler, i'll stick with the stock, save some $$ and besides, i like seeing ppls expression as i leave really quick in stock looking max

If you want it slightly louder, you could just have the factory resonator removed and keep the stock muffler or run a straight pipe instead of a cat

I was inquiring about this the other day. You might benefit from the info as well. The link to my thread is below. Good luck. I've all but ordered both the cattman Y-pipe and b-pipe, and keeping an OEM muffler. -Chris
