I've purchased a new Shift **** for my 2001 Maxima SE 5spd and would like to be prepared. Does anyone know if the shifter has any torque screws I'll run into or does the stock **** just twist off.

Twist really hard, counterclockwise, use a wrench over a towel and just break the seal.

I used a strap wrench on the shift **** to break it free. You will have to concentrate all your force on the top of the ****, the threads are up higher in the stock shift ****.

I tried a shorter shift **** for a week but the center console is higher in the 5th generation and interfers with
quick shifts. I am back to stock.

Put it in first or reverse and put a strap wrench around it and hit it hard in a counter clockwise direction. Should break the glue after a few hits.

Damn man, you SAWED it off??? That's a bit EXTREME for me. My replacement **** used the stock threads anyway, so I wasn't about to SAW anything off MY shaft! It really didn't require THAT much force to just twist it off.

I suppose you chisel your lug nuts off when you rotate your tires, eh? Jaws-of-life when you lock the key in the ignition?

Did you check out the Courtesy STS, ohboiya? It's almost $100 cheaper than the SMC and there's a full write-up on the install. Check out the link in my sig.
