Valvebody Upgrade - LOVE IT!

Sent my 5th gen. VB to Maximum Tuning, in NY, and had the level 2 (street/strip) upgrade done. If interested (516) 676-8470, ask for Jeff.

What a difference!

The car snaps swiftly into each gear, but w/out any thuds or hard jerks. Say bye-bye to those long, time-wasting shifts.

Worth every penny of the $400 I paid, and the turnaround was 3 days, including shipping time both ways. (A much more positive experience than I had w/ that Texas thief!)

Congrats on the choice, not a lot of automagics on this forum so you probably won't receive a lot of replies. I think it's money well spent.

Exactly! I'm glad to here success stories. I have a Maximum Tuning VB mod in my 3rd gen SE and I love it. It still annoys me that Don got $350 during that group deal and sent a non working VB.... he tried to fix it... no change. So, $420 later,... a working VB wasn't provided. I had to pay Maximum Tuning to fix it. They fixed it, no prob and I am happy now... just not with that thief in TX.

ANYONE THINKING ABOUT A VB MOD.... PLEASE CALL MAXIMUM TUNING!

BigDogJonx, So you have the Maximum Tuning VB? And you say it is only slightly harder than stock? Man, mine is much greater than stock, that is why I like it so much.

scmaxima, I have fairly new tires with the VLSD unit and I can bark 2nd gear everytime. I am just a NA 3rd gen.

Yea I got it done like 2months ago. I didnt want it shifting hard to the point where im gonna head or feel a "bang" everytime. He made it so that I can be capable of running 350whp and still maintain a luxurious feel of the tranny.

Well if you send it in there are about 3 different levels that they can set it to.. Street or Race application.. But if you bring it to the shop the tranny guy will test drive your car and choose the one he thinks would be best for your car..

Sounds good. I'm debating whether or not to get the VB mod this summer or 5spd conversion. I have no idea how to take out the VB to send so I would have to go to NY w/ either decision. The only problem is that I live in SC and its kinda far.

For me it took off about 1 tenth. I can see it taking off up to 3 tenths if you have forced induction.

But, you don't really buy this mod for the time it's going to shave on the 1/4. I bought it to prolong the life of my tranny and MOST importantly, the firmer shifts.

There has to be something wrong with my valve body mod though ... I can't seem to keep the tires from spinning in the 1-2 shift.

My question is, how exactly does it prolong tranny life? I've heard that's just conjecture. People have boosted with the VB mod and still blown trannies of course. Would a cooler help save the tranny as much or more? Just looking for a tech answer

It is not a rebuild

They change a few things to make it shift harder and faster

hahaha lol. okay good. heres another question. which one is better? because as what BigDogJonx, he has his tranny hold up to 350 hp. doesn't a rebuild tranny do the same thing?

Everyone... SEARCH!!! I'm sorry, there is just some good reading if you will enter "valve body" in the search box.

The VB mod decreases the time is takes to make the shift. A stock soft shift is caused by the tranny slipping into the next gear, which causes more wear and more heat. The VB mod creates less heat which would prolong the life of the tranny. But this firmer shift could cause slightly more of a shock to other parts of the car. Such as, motor and tranny mounts and parts of the drivetrain.

A VB is not a rebuilt tranny. It's a 'recalibration' or 'modification' to your existing control valve body to raise the fluid pressure... which in turn, creates firmer shifts.

A VB mod is not the same as a rebuilt tranny. A rebuilt tranny is a rebuilt tranny. A VB mod is a modification to your VB to raise fluid pressure during shifts.

PLEASE ONLY go with Maximum Tuning. If you go to any tranny shop in the nation, I'm sure they won't know jack about your particular tranny. If you have any questions.. contact Jeff at Maximum Tuning. www.maximumtuning.net

I don't mess around when it comes to my tranny. I only go with the best.

Yes... pretty much everybody that has a valve body has a tranny cooler. In fact, MANY people have tranny coolers without having a VB mod. Get a tranny cooler!!! It will only help your tranny.

I have email Jeff twice and no reply. He must be pretty busy modifying valve bodies.

It sounds much like he is installing a shift kit in our valve bodies. I bought a Transgo shift kit for $90 for my Camaro and installed it myself. Is that all that Maximum Tuning is doing? I am going to check with Transgo and see if they have one for our Maxima's.

This valve body mod porbably won't change shift points. Shifts are programmed into the computer. I need my shift points lowered with the additional hp I have added. I need somebody that can do a little reprogramming.

If you are doing the mod just for racing just do the drop resistor mod. (search) It will give the fastest shift possible because it shifts at full line pressure. However it shifts very fast and is not for street use, thats why you put it on a switch.

If you are doing it for the street. Do the VB mod.

Jeff is not on the internet much. They just recently opened their business to the internet. The absolute best way to get a hold of Jeff is to call him at the shop during normal business hours.

The VB mod will NOT change shift points. It will only create a faster/firmer 1-2 and 2-3 shift. I really don't know how you can get your car to shift earlier at WOT. In the VE, I can't get my car to shift as late as I want b/c of the rev limiter. I don't know too much about your motor.

This is NOT a Transgo shift kit that Maximum Tuning does. Transgo does make a kit for some of the Maximas, but it's not made for performance. It will increase fluid pressure, but just a little. Transgo is only made to be installed after a new tranny rebuild. It will help prolong tranny life.

The Maximum Tuning shift kit is a custom recalibrated VB. I went with Max Tuning b/c I wanted performance. I love firm shifts while driving around town. I've had mine for 4 months now and I still smile everytime it shifts. They seriously know everything there is to know about the Maxima tranny and the valve body. So, they are able to give you stages to choose from.

Go only with the best... Maximum Tuning. (516)676-8470
