Which tail lights do you guys prefer? Please list your opinions. Both the positives and the negatives. Thanks in advance.

00-01 SE tails, but im partial. I prefer the non-euro look. Plus I have a black-white theme going.

Depends what color car you have. If you have a lighter color car, the 02/03 tails would look better. If you have a darker car the 00/01 SE Tails would look better. That is just my preference, the 02/03 tails just stand out too much on dark cars but looks great on majestic blue.
On a black or grey car, I would take the 00/01 SEs.
On silver, white, or any light color--the 02/03 is the way to go.

Re: 00-01 SE vs 02-03 SE Tail Lights?

I have an '01 SE, so my tail-lights are the smoked black ones. I love the look. I like these much more than the GXE/GLE red ones of '00 and '01.

The '02+ ones are okay, but I don't really like the euro style even though it's more subtle on the Maxima than on other cars.

Mine are starting to grow on me. Although I did love my painted tails on my 2k GLE, I don't think I'll do that with my 2k2 though. The all red didn't look good on that car, Gray Lustre with no spoiler. I can deal with the clear ones on Sterling Mist though.

I just came up with something intresting I have always been a big fan of 00-01 smoked tails. I was thinking of on the 02 tails if that plastic thing can be taken off and the chrome painted the color of your car then you'll be rolling. Someones gotta try this mod im surprised nobody has done it yet.

I am considering swithing my tails to the 00-01 smoked SE ones. These euro ones that I currently have do not look good on a black car.

personally, I would go with smoked tails...why? Because on a Majestic Blue car they are unique. In 00-01, the only way you can find one in Majestic Blue is if it's an Anniversary edition. It wasn't available as a regular color, so if you had smoked tails, then it would be a combination that isn't seen so often. Likewise you can make some $$ from the sale of your current Euro Tails since people are always buying them on here. Majestic blue became a color available on all Maximas in 02, so it's not as unique anymore. That said...

I had to make this choice when I was switching my red GXE tails...they're both were the same price so it came just down to looks -

In the end I went with the smoked tails, because I saw another grey lustre Maxima in a lot and thought it looked pretty cool. My suggestion to you is find a Nissan Dealer and see how the lights look on a Max that's the same color as yours, and then check out their used lot and find an 00-01 AE that has the same color as yours. Really, it's all subjective, and pictures don't do either light justice. You have to see them in person. Good luck finding a majestic Blue AE to look at though.

Being unique isn't the same thing as looking good though! The 02/03 lights give it a nice frost effect on the car. I know I sound weird saying that but have you seen clear corners and the 02 tails on the majestic blue? It looks like frost and it looks hot.

The black taillights on the majestic blue would make it look dull.

That is why I want to switch mine out. I behind an 00-01 Black SE this past weekend and I pretty much decided that I liked the smoked tails and that I want them.

I am partial (and biased) to the 00-01.

Altezza's are gay.

I also prefer the 00 (and not the 01-02-03) 17 inch mags. The 01's have and ugly center-cap. and I prefer a center cap (00) to the open, thick spoke, style of the 02-03.

Now, if I could put Skylines, I just may like open bolt mags!

This doesn't make sense. The 00-01 SE 17's had a center cap. The 02-03 SE 17's have exposed lugs.

Like I said, I didn't change anything. Those are the stock yellowish corner lights. I didn't change them to orange.

It constantly changes

when you go outside and see your neighbors GLE tails you like those, or the 2k2's, etc... and he does the same, it's all preference.

I don't know, I've seen some black taillights on Majestic Blue Max's and it goes along with the whole dark car/smoked tails thing. It's too busy looking with the 02 style tails, and everyone's got them on Majestic Blue.

Basically that confirms it. It's personal preference. You get what you like.

I like the 00-01 tails (w/the black rings on the outside) better. I've thought about swapping my 2K2 lights w/someone but don't wanna deal w/the trouble of having to deal w/sealing compound and possibly having leaks.

Somehow I just don't like the Altezza rings ...

Yes, the 00 and 01 have center caps. What I meant was I prefer the 00 center cap to the 01. The 00 has a small center area that is darker. The 01 entire cap is dark. I guess they could't colour match the high-gloss 01 mag colour on the cap.

I agree that the black lights don't look great on all models. Black on black on black is probably one of the worse. But I like my black on white look, cause the G?E lights look like crap. (IMHO, no flames please)

I'm thinking about trading out my 2k3 tails for some red GLE/GXE 2k1, y2k tails...to have the ultimate sleeper..

your thoughts?

A guy where I live did that to his Neon and it looks phatt.. He bought the after market Altezza's and painted all the chrome red except for the ring around the brake lights... Personally I prefer the 2K2-2k3 taillights over the 2k-2k1.. I plan on getting some eventually...

I thought of doing the same thing. Although, my HIDs and wheels would give me away as a 2K2.

Don't. If anything get the 2k-2k1 SE tails. I don't like the all red GLE/GXE tails.
