Another Heartbreaker for us 5th gens. Stolen 2k2 Vandalized

This one really took it home. You know you've read more than enough and had your share of HID thefts and something has got to change. I went to visit my sister in law on saturday and right around the corner from her I spotted this 2K2. Since I keep my camera in the car most of the times, I decided to snap these. This car is now in the Bronx in the area of Allerton Avenue.

These pics are also on my newly created cardomain page here for bigger pictures.

Man, everything inside that vehicle is gone. Actually, I dont think the owner lives too far from where the car is now. This is the second time I have notice this same vehicle. The first time was an actual failed attempt to steal the HID's. The owner had them secured with some kind of wire and they were just hanging loose then. Figured the buttwipe gave up or ran out of time. Now, only the skeleton on that car exists. I mean every wire on the inside is gone.

One of my child stomping grounds was around the Allerton Ave. area of the Bronx. Seeing those photos breaks my heart.

I'm betting the thieves probably snatched the HIDS but the car remained unattended well past the HID-****** event and subsequently, thieves began snatching other parts as this Max sat further. JMG (just my guess)

When parking in the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn and uptown Manhattan, never leave your parked in one spot for more than 24hrs. Beyond that, EXPECT to have some parts missing when you return.

Peace.

Scary stuff esp. when mine is the same color. I'm glad I don't live in NY or NJ. They probably stole the steering wheel for the airbag module.

All I want to know is how they stole the car. With the new coded key systems it is very hard to steal a car. Only reason I want to know this is because if we know how they got around it, maybe I can build a way to "patch" that security hole.

I'm guessing they got in with a key for that car. Either stolen from someone's house while the house was being robbed, copied by Nissan when the car was being serviced somewhere else, or maybe it even had remote start, and the key was jacked from that.

I can't believe how much they stole from that car...seats, shiftboot, steering wheel, but they left the tails??

Actually, there tons of cops in the bronx. But, if you were a beat cop in the Bx, would this be your biggest concern? Another thought just came to mind as we discussed the possibilities on how this car was stolen.. it is very much possible the owner could somehow have been involved. I am just speculating but you know things like that happened. Hey, an ex coworker of mine left her 99 Tahoe in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx after 8 months of those $667 a month plus insurance. So ...

In my own opinion i think this car was a setup i mean there are people outthere that do this to their own cars purposely like if they cant afford their payments or they want the insurance to cover for a new car they will pay for the car to disapear i know a guy that did that with his civic and the insurance gave him money, other than that i dont think there is a way to start this car with out the key chip...

IMO

what sucks is car owners spend hard earned money on this and then some low life scum can just take that all away and leave us angry. Makes me want to invent some sort of alarm system that shoots people if they try to steal cars.

why are you assuming that the car was stolen?
i think that was all done where the car was parked unless i missed something
they get into the 2k2s very easily
my friend has a 2k2 that got robbed that way, HIDs and whole interior stripped, he lives in brooklyn
what they do is rip out the lock mechanism on the drivers door and they tamper with something which triggers the auto windows to open and thats it...

Well, its safe enough to assume it was stolen given the condition. If not, then its very much possible that the owner could have had it "done away with".. but that is all speculation. As I mentioned I have seen that car in the area before when the hid's were being ripped off. well, the owner is probably away or whatever the issue is. My sister in law did tell me the car has been there for a week now. She said she saw it since at least last monday with the missing headlights. Alternate side on that street is twice a week...

they could have just broke the windows...a lot easier than getting into the wires. They could have broke the window & got inside.

I hate vandals and theifs. I thought it was kool that Nissan put stock HID in the car, but it doenst seem like a good idea anymore. They should have put a more theif proof system on the HID.

it is cool that they did it but for some reason a lot of other cars come with HIDs and they arent being robbed

take lexus, mercedes, bmw, even some older lincolns for example
you never see any of them stolen

Yeah, and what gets me is that they expect us to shell out $60 to get the HID locking mechanism, not sure what their term for it is. If you ask me, they should have made them harded to take to begin with.

that's because most of their cars come stock with HID headlights for their whole generation unlike ours. Nissan came with it stock for 02/03. The 00/01 did not have it and the 02/03 are interchangable with the 00/01. That creates a market for these thieves. Look at the Acura TL guys, they are having the same problem as us.

Also, people who buy bmw, mbz, etc...they would rather pay the extra $$ and get everything done by the dealer.

What HID locking system???? Who puts it out... Nissan???

Listen, after all the money I spent to fix my two incidents, and the alarm... $60 is cheap!!!

$60 still isn't 100% that you won't get them stolen. It's still a lot better than nothing.

no that isnt 100% accurate, a lot of lexus and beemers and benzs dont come with them for example es300, gs300 they come with halogens and HIDs as an option, same with all the benzs
its just harder to steal them
the reason acura's have the same problem is because they are easy to steal, its not just the TLs but the CLs also, they steal them not for the housings but for the balasts and bulbs themselves, they junk the housings almost all the time, the way they are made its just much easier to steal them then any other of the better made cars

Yes, I agree 100%! Whenever I go to visit my gf in Brooklyn, I take my old Accord. And if you don't get your headlights stolen, you'll get your bumpers torn up within a blink of an eye--no respect for other people's ish in that city.

And for those that are saying that 2002/3 lights are being stolen so that they can be put on 2000/2001s, that's somewhat incorrect. Although some of them are being put to use on the earlier 5th gens, they tend to steal the lights for the ballasts and the bulbs, not the entire housing. So, in other words, they can be placed on ANY car, and that's the reason why there's such high demand on them. If they were only being placed on 2000/2001s, I don't think this problem would be nearly as big.

Living in NY, I can whole heartedly agree with the above statement. The only way I will drive there is if I take my 1993 beater car and STILL park it in a garage.

My best friend lives in the Bronx and my g/f lives in Queens. I will NEVER EVER park my Max unattended...not even for a minute. All of NYC is a big sh^it hole and the crime is off the scale. You can't have anything nice there without it getting damaged or stolen.

Luckilly, I live in LI in a nice area so I don't worry as much...but I still worry. No place is safe.

That car was definitely stolen, rolling on 2 donut spares and 2 sawblades is not the same as winter tires. NYC owners pay a price for those 255 horses...

our maximas are easy to steal even though we have the immobilizer security system...
professional car theives have something that can start cars with immobilizer systems...it cracks the code and the car starts....
always put the club on...if a thief see that a car has a club on they will most likely avoid stealing it...
protect your maxima...put a club on...
