5th Gen KYB AGX availability

Gents,

I e-mailed KYB to ask when they will have AGX's on the market for the 5th gen Maxima. Their response was "maybe a couple of years". That sounds rather ridiculous to me. especially since based on what I've read here, the 4th gen AGXs can be fairly easily adapted to the 5th gen.

If your interested in these shocks, maybe we should blitz their "consumer/tech support" line. You can e-mail your interest to shocks@kyb.com or through their website at KYB.com.

I wrote them back and am waiting to see what their reply is.
Here's my reply and their message to me:

Troy,

Thanks for the reply. From what I understand, the
only major difference in the 4th generation Maxima
(95-99) suspension to the 5th generation (2000-2003)
is a slightly different upper strut mounting bracket.
I've also read that your AGX shocks/struts for the
95-99 Maxima can easily be adapted to the 00-03 Maxima
by utilizing the 95-99 Nissan upper front strut mount
part and elongated some bolt holes. The rear AGX
shocks sound like they are a direct bolt in.

If it's as simple as swapping upper strut mounts and
elongating a few bolt holes, why
the long lead time before KYB will produce the front
AGX struts for use with the standard 5th gen upper
strut mounts? Seems like it would be an easy change
to the currently produced 4th gen AGX. Is it more a
matter of demand? If so, there are many Maxima
enthusiast websites (maxima.org) where people would
buy your AGX struts in a minute if they were offered
for the 00-03 Maxima.

Again, thanks for your response and consideration in
this matter.

Kindest Regards,
Rich Kilar

Man this makes me happy that I went ahead and just got the JIC FLT-A2. I kept waiting on news from KYB and Koni and just kept getting contradicting news. I really wonder if any of these companies realize that whoever is first to market is going to get quite a number of sales. I know I was waiting for whoever came first and just couldn't wait any longer.

I figure that if enough Maxima enthusiasts e-mail and contact them, they may realize there's a benefit (profit $$$) to getting a 5th gen AGX to market sooner. It doesn't hurt to drop them a message...maybe someone over there will be awake at the wheel and take note that there is a demand for such an application.

Just get the set up from Cattman Performance, that's what I did and I Love them.
Why wait until they get around to doing it.
