!!! Alarm LED swap - Success !!!
Hi Folks:
I successfully managed to swap the stock alarm LED this weekend.
I put in a Blue High intensity LED ( Radioshack - the 2600 mcd blue LED / 5mm ).
The steps were simple - thanks for those that gave me pointers
1. Pull out the clock assembly - this was from one of Russ' writeups - this took more time than what I thought -- I finally had to pry it out with a flathead screwdriver !
2. Remove the clock assembly and detach the circuit board
3. Unsolder the old LED
4. Put the new LED -- thing to note -- LED polarity -- when you put the new LED in, the positive leg of the LED ( the longer one ), goes to the left hole in the board ( if you are looking at it right side up ).
5. Put everything back and voila !!
Note 2: There is no need for a resistor - I guess the board is wired up OK.
Another note: You need to make the hole on the outside cover larger - this LED is larger than the stock one
I used a 1/4 drillbit - it came out perfect !
Looks cool now

Actually 1/4" was OK - yeah it does sound huge....the hole that's there currently is not that tiny either.
Of course the size depends on the LED you get!
You'll have to solder the new LED - then it stays in place - that's what you asked ?
pics --> soon![Smilie](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I'd check mine, but my car is at the body shop getting the rear bumper fixed.

Yes - the circuit board snaps into the outer-housing ( the one that u can see normally visible ).
Its the outer housing that has the hole - which I drilled to make it larger.
I'll get some pics -- I got to take the whole thing out to get the pics though![Frown](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
I should've thought about it and have taken pics -- kick me.

Actually, I was thinking how it stayed in the plastic hole. Unless the circuit board snaps into the housing?![got me](https://maxima.org/forums/images/smilies/ne_nau.gif)
