it takes an experienced headlight thief less than 1 minutes to ****** both headlights.. easy..

NYC is notorious for this problem and I see countless amounts of TLs and 2k2-2k3 maximas with missing headlights or plain 2000-2001 headlights.

If you talk to some used car dealers in the tri-state area.. and particularly in NY/NJ they will tell you how dealer auctions are full of 2002 maximas going for fairly cheap and still not that many dealers are bidding because they may fear they can sell them.. many people are getting rid of these cars because of this problem or because of hearing of this problem.. I'd love to own a 2k2 but I'm afraid I'll be victim to this as well.. even though I have a driveway to use. I still go out and drive all over and I'll be scared to park the car because you can loose your headlights anytime, anywhere.

2002 Headlights Stolen

I live in Orange and have a 2002 MAX my lights were stolen the end of January, since then Im seeing and hearing about this problem everywhere.
This is my first performance car and I was just starting to enjoy it and now since this happened while my wife had the car she doesn't want to drive it anymore.
I had the car repaired in Bloomfield, nj at Exclusive Auto Body and when I was leaving he (ronnie) was converting the lights of another 2002 Max with the 00/01 lights, he said it was the first one he has tried to modify but since then I foundout he has successfully done three cars.
Im considering this option and was thinking of trying to do this myself, just buying to lights and connectors to see how it goes.
I just drive the car to work and then take it home put it in the garage, when I do go out I don't stay long
If anyone has successfully changed the lights please let me know and post any how-to's this would be greatly appreciated.

There is a Nissan security kit available from the dealer at $70 ($~300 installed). It includes headlight assembly bolts with snap-off heads that act like poprivits to replace the factory headlight bolts. If you ever need to remove the headlights, they must be drilled out. The kit includes a new hoodlatch assembly that prevents popping the hood open through the front grill. It also includes a driver's doorlock shield that prevents the door from being opened with a slimjim. Nothing will stop a determined thief but this will make him work a whole lot harder and take a lot longer. Hopefully he will try someone else's Max is more the name of the game.

I have the anti-theft kit.

Perhaps, you could put a label on each headlight saying "LIGHT ANTI-THEFT KIT INSTALLED.

Hey Vic, don't be misinformed...your "anti-theft" kit is no more than a revised hood latch....its not true fix...all it does it prevent the thiefs from cutting your grill and popping the hood open.

They can still either break your window to open your hood, or just rip out the lights with a crowbar, or to be TOTAL ******, they just smash the lights in...

We need a REAL method of theft protection!!

Headlights Stolen

Thanx for that Grey Wolf2 but since the thieves are a little stupid they wouldn't know I had these new bolts installed thus trashing more of my MAX than before until they realize this.
Im leaning more toward replacing the lights with the 00/01 lights and install a perimeter alarm with two air horns.

Does anyone know if this is isolated in the Northeast or all over the country. You all have me paranoid to park!

Most of the reports are from the Northeast, but thefts are occuring in other parts of the country.

I don't intend to frighten you, just be careful.

When I was growing up in Roselle, Union used to be the place to live. Now, its become more...say...demographically challenged. But this migration of from Newark/Irvington (via Hillside and Maplewood) was bound to reach Union.

I've become very paranoid about parking my Maxima ANYWHERE in public. I only park at work (secured parking deck) and home (garage).

Union, NJ definately used to be awesome, i still remember when goerge bush Sr. visited the high school, and BIll CLinton was in town. NOw it's becoming more and more like newark and irvington, the influence of the surounding towns is just too much.

For that matter, it seems like the entire Union county is going downhill... by the way insurance rates for Union county owning a 02 or 03 maxima is outrageous... over 3K a yr, eveyrone agree?
