What is the difference between Fed-spec and Cali-spec y-pipes?
You all going to laugh but..I got caught, and my car is Cali-spec
Does anyone have any pics where the difference can clearly be seen? I am thinking of having the Fed-spec Budget y-pipe altered to Cali-spec..if that is feasible.

The federal spec y-pipe adds a upturn on the front side of the engine, where as the cali spec y stops after the front pre-cat. You can see pictures of the Stillen 2pc y-pipe on my site. Essentially, if you use both pieces it's a federal spec, whereas if you only use the second piece, it's a cali spec. So, to answer your question, yes it is possible to change your fed spec Y into a cali spec, just by lopping off the front section at the right point so that it bolts up to your front precat... or you could do a conversion like I did. Good luck!
