Anyone install a K&N filter intake?

Need some pointers for removing old intake and installing new K&N filter with a bracket that the filter is on and a bar. Please help or direct me to a how to page. Thanks.

www.frankencar.com and make sure to get the Apexi dry filter. We have wussy MAF's and the K&N oil wetted gauze filters can screw them up.

Are you talking the Stillen intake? Or just a K&N filter universal element?

And this is precisely how rumors and misinformation get started. Look here if you want the facts:

33,000 miles on a K&N drop in, already self-serviced once...

NO PROBLEMS.

Thank you for clearing that up. The oil if anything would clean the MAF hot wire. When your MAF goes its because you have a bum MAF...not because of over oiling your filter.

Ok, maybe I should have put it another way. Most of the people here on the org that have had blown MAF's use K&N filters. When they take the cars to the Dealers, most of them were not replaced under warranty because the Nissan Techs said it was caused by the oil. While K&N may very well be correct, there is an old adagy:

I can't make you, but I can make you wish you had!

Not quite true still...

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=maf+and+poll

http://forums.maxima.org/poll.php?ac...ts&pollid=1086

as can be seen, there is often an EQUAL number of MAF's that take a nosedive with NO change in filtration choice.

I'm talking about a K & N filter universal I guess. I bought the kit from E-bay for about $70. It came with a filter, an adapter, 4 screws with nuts and a bar with holes in it and a small curve on one side. I took out the old factory box and put the filter on. The only deal is that it hangs and I'm sure this bar has something to do with holding it up but I can't see where it bolts to(supposed to bolt into an existing hole I believe) and where it supports the filter itself. Thanks for any help.

Oops. My bad. I thought Igor911 was asking about cleaning K&N Filters.

You're right, of course. The filtering material used in the Apexi air filter cannot be cleaned. So the Apexi filter is expensive, requires additional hardware to mount, and has to be replaced every time it gets dirty . . . the best of all possible worlds.

I digress. My personal preference is the Apexi. It's a better made filter, but it does cost for that craftsmanship. It filters much better. It adds a couple of extra ponies which truly don't amount to much.

True, true. From the standpoint of filtration alone, there's no doubt that it's one of the best high-performance air filters available on the market.
