You just can't adjust you're gain? I know radioshack has a volume control for 8ohm home speakers, it about $14. Don't know if they make a lower ohm model though.

Or maybe a crossover:

No, the ones at radioshack won't have 4 rca's. Probably have to go with a crossover. I'm no audio expert, so hopefully someone else can offer advice.

The only reason you would want an external volume control is to adjust the level of bass, not to increase output.

There could be a million things wrong. Check the gain levels on the amp. If that doesn't help, take it to a stereo shop.

I believe that what you are looking for is something like this: remote bass controller Now, this might not work for your specific application, since you might not have a PG amp, but you could probably search for something similar for your amp if it is in fact what you are looking for. You might also want to try Best Buy, or some stereo shop in your area.

Your friend is in a tough spot. Some amps have gain adjustment via LPL like the link above. Typically, you have to buy the model which supports it (Phoenix, MTX, Kicker or Infinity). Others have SUB out on their head unit where the gain can be adjusted from within the head unit (Kenwood, Alpine, etc).

There is a product called "Epicenter" which does what you are looking for.
