I went to NTB(National Tire and Battery) and they told me my tire were 70k. I have like 40k on them right now and full-trottle, I lose grip real easily...

I looked at my treads and they seem okay...but will they last to 70k? When did you guys change your oem tires? when i should i expect to change mine?

Changed mine at 18K. Even that was way too long to be riding on those death donuts.

Too Soon to change.....

7k, awaiting first rotation, and the fronts look visibly worn.
I think I may drive harder than I realize, because I manage the tire pressure closely.

I can't see these lasting more than 20k - if I can STAND it that long!!! (oh please - oh please!!)

I am DYING to upgrade!!!

I feel ya. 15K on mine and I'm seriously thinking of dumping them when I get my tax returns. I've done quite a bit of research on Tirerack.com and have narrowed it down to Yokohama AVS ES100s or maybe Bridgestone S-03 Pole Positions though there's quite a big price difference between the two. No snow where I live so I'm going for some aggressive directional tires.

There is a cure for that. Just punch it from a stop whenever possible (and safe to do so)...it would amaze you how fast you can find yourself 'needing' new tires.

OEM tires ARE great... if you live in an old farmhouse with a big oak tree in the front yard. Matching tire swings, BABY!!!

On another note... blubyu2k2... you should be banned from talking about tread life! You're not exactly the average driver, homey!!!

Changed to Pilot A/S

Had 53k on the OEMs hydroplaning in rain, slipping and sliding in snow. Life became too scary, still had some thread left according to the inverted penny test !!
Hooked up the pilot a/s, literally car on rails feel. Had to take out a mortgage just to buy four tires !! expeennnssiivee !

No regrets, still trying to get to the tire's limits on curves...

I have 29k on my toyos and 2 of them already need to be replaced. The other two have about 30% tread left. I ordered the bridgstone re950 from costco. Hoping to get them installed tomorrow.

31k on my RE92's and they suck. After a previous post about the Falken ZE512's, I think that's what I'll be putting on very soon (< 2 mos).

I pulled my RE92's off a month after I got the car - put on Pilot Sport A/S. I got 28K on them before they got hard, too - they never hydroplaned, but turning in the wet got to be a little nerve-wracking the last couple thousand miles.

18" Evo5's coming next, with ES100's. I'd love the S-03's, but I can't afford a $185 10k mile tire. I'll let you guys know about the AVS's once they're on the car next month.

I just made it to 20k on my OEM's; wasn't too happy with them. Now running Bridgestone Potenza RE950's, Hi-performance all seasons (I'm in the northeast, so I need an all season or two sets of tires). So far, no complaints.

how do you determine how much thread is left on the tire? is there like a device that measures it or something?

34K and probablly got a little left

I have Toyo Proxes A05 on my 2000 GLE.

I'm between 34K and 35K and they are OK - passes inspection by a little (about 3/32 - replace at 2/32 according to State) - never were good in the rain. I'm not an overly aggressive driver so I think I'm a little easier on my tires.

For what it is worth - a dealer I had doing my transmission TSB offered a discounted 30K service - they do not include tire rotation because their opinion is that the Maxima OEM tires do not make it 30K miles and most people would have replaced them within 5000 miles of 30K (on the low side).

You get out a ruler and measure the length of the "thread". Then you get a sewing needle and stitch up the bald spots on your tires due to lack of "thread".

TREAD, people, T-R-E-A-D!!!! Tires have TREADS, clothes and message boards have THREADS!

That's twice already in one THREAD. And that, my friends, is the proper use of the word.

I had to make the same decision and wound up going with the ES100's. Since I won't be autocrossing, I figure I can live with a little less overall performance in exchange for a cheaper tire that will last longer. I have a lead foot and drive pretty hard, so I'm hoping the ES100's give me at least 20-25K miles.

The tires were delivered this past week (mounted on 18x8 Evo5's). All I'm waiting for now is this miserable weather to break so I can put them on. I'll post a review once I've had a chance to drive on them a bit.

WORST TIRES EVER! I have 15000 on mine and they are cooked. Albeit I drive across the state of florida alot at high speed, but they are terrible. Get pilot sport all seasons if you wanna keep the stock 17" rims.....theyre the best tires out there in that size, PERIOD.

The Penny Test. Stick a penny into a tire groove. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, it's time for new tires.

I just got my 2k3 6speed, it has 250 miles on it. I hate the stock tires they suck. I was thinking about changin them as soon as I hit about 1000 to 1500 miles. Any suggestions. I would like a nice high performance tire, that doesnt make the ride quiality to loud. I used to have nitto-450's and they were louder than my stereo system could go.

Tire swap

Newbie here. I was hoping to get some feedback on a decision....

I will be trading in a 2k SE for a 2k3. I put Pilot A/S's on my car in December and only have about 5,000 miles on them. When I get the new 2k3 (any day now), should I have them swap tires - put my Michelins on the new car and give them the new stock tires to put on my trade?

Thanks for the input!

yes! And if the dealer refuses to do the swap, go to the junk yard and get some old tires and put them on before you trade in the car. Those michelins are like gold. I went to Sears over the weekend and bought the Falkens 512 on sale for $112. Regular price was about $174. They'll be on sale until Mar 29.
