Molded or flat real wood for trim?

I want to get some feedback as to which aftermarket wood trim I should go with. Yes, I did search but I want some new input. I am looking at Joshua Tree. What are the advantages of flat vs. molded?
I don't want to do the 40 piece thing as I think it is a little too much. I know the OEM GLE is molded, but the real wood is appealing to me. I would appreciate some input from those with experience. Also, where can I get this installed if I choose not to do it myself. Thanks.

with flat, it kind of looks like an afterthought thrown on top of the original trim. The molded looks like it's original trim. Try any local speed shop, they should be able to install it. I've seen some detail places around here that can install them too. Enjoy.

Sorry, I don't agree. 99% of the time no one would even tell the difference if it was flat or molded. Also, the molded just looks like fake plastic wood where the flat companies which uses REAL wood, like Joshua Tree, looks warm and welcoming.

first off , the flat kit just lays on top on the pieces you are covering. so take for examble, the driver door instrument panel. this piece is gray in color ,no matter what color interior you have. so if you put a flat wood piece on top of that ,you will see the gray on the sides. that looks like a**!!! especially if you have blonde interior. BUT,

if you use molded it will cover the entire piece. looks like it was made with the interior.

real vs. synthetic:

synthetic will last longer and hold up to the UV rays.
real is well, real. its truely sweet.

i have synthetic 9 piece molded wood dash kit from auto dash emporium. not too much, not too little. just the right look!!!
i have had nothing but great experience with this kit. check my homepage.

hope this helps.

if i remember correctly, you have the 40 piece kit and you have dark interior. now you can get away with the flat with that interior ,but you have to agree w/ blonde interior it does not look as good as the molded.

i am just letting anyone who may want to buy a kit that they have all the info on the matter. that's why we ask the question on the org.

i am not knocking you for your taste. you ride is sweet. no denying it. just giving my .02

peace

thanks man. i hear what your're saying. it all comes down to taste. this forum has enough comments, pictures, and wrtie-ups for someone to make an informed decision before purchasing one of the kits. There shouldn't be any reason someone couldnt find the info they need on this forum.

BTW, you don't have such a bad ride yourself.

sometimes it is a pain to shuffle trough all the threads to find bits of info though.

Sorry pmas......I'm with KJ on this one for the most part.

You won't have as many pieces available with the molded, but it looks like it actually belongs there....especially on the door handles, ash tray, and shift surround. I dislike, on the other hand, the piece that goes over the A/C vents. That looks like hell.

Flat doesn't fit that great, so doesn't look that great. Molded is a little more expensive, but looks much better! As if it was factory. IMO there is such a thing as too many pieces too.

Oops, sorry... Anyway I was thinking of getting the "Carpathain Burl" wood trim from the same company. Any suggestions or recommendations? I have a 2002 GLE with the molded "wood" stuff, will the install be a problem with that?
