Frankencar with Automatic - does it do anything?

I've been reading many posts here regarding the Frankencar intake. Most people seemed to be pretty pleased with either the performance or the sound or both.

I do notice a lot of people commenting that they really notice a difference around 4K rpm.

I have an automatic - is there really any point in considering the Frankencar intake (or any other for that matter)?

Unless I shift myself from 1-2-D the A/T will shift long before that 4K rpm level.

Just curious - I've been looking for mods that might make my Maxima feel like a fun car to drive - I'm pretty well sold on the RSB, FSTB - the Frankencar intake looked pretty simple and inexpensive and I thought it might be worht trying.

Opinions/ideas welcome

press the go pedal harder and it will shift after 4k...

go with the intake... it is relatively cheap and does make a difference.

yeah, just push the pedal to the metal, plus the intake will make your max growl, nice and deep

i love my frankencar w/ apexi and so do all my friends. It has a nice growl, almost like exhaust at WOT. I also felt a pretty decent gain and no lowend power loss. The mods i have done to my car are a UDP, FSTB, and the frankencar. I ordered a y pipe from budget but since i live in alaska they are trying to find a shipping that is reasonable. I raced this other 5th gen auto, he said he was a 2k2 and he only beat me by half a cars length from a race 0-60.

Frankencar Pictures

Can someone please post pictures of there frankencar intake where
the midpipe hooks up to the three vacuum/breather hoses?
I have a frankencar for a 96 maxima. I would like to see what the
midpipe for the 2k and 2k1 look like.
I already checked frankencar.com and they didn't have any good close
pictures.
Thanks in advance.

a midpipe for the 4th gen will have two stems on opposite sides for the two breather hoses. For the 2k/2k1 midpipe, there is one main breather hose and then two other smaller vacuum lines that tee off the main breather stem. The 2k2+ have only a single breather line stem.

plug up the breather stem on the opposite side. You could probably try to use a tee fitting or something to hook up the smaller vacuum lines. Or maybe it would be better to just sell the 4th gen pipe and buy the one made for the 2k

I'm considering a Frankencar Intake as well for my 2k SE 5 spd. Cattman Y and B pipes going on in the next couple of days and I think the intake should help the engine breath better. Really, my only reservation is the noise level. I don't want the car to sound obnoxious. Anyone have any sound clips of what I can expect it to sound like?

I'm new to the mod thing and I'm not too sure what the setup looks like. I know AEM has a bypass valve for their CAI Intakes, is there one for the Frankencar? Do we even have to worry about water getting in?

i would contact steve from frankencar, im pretty sure he sells just the filter by itself. the reason you want to order from his is because youll need two adapters to run the apexi filter. it doesnt mount up like a k&n would. youve got one but you will need another.

I have the Frankencar setup with the Stillen filter on my 2000 SE and I love it. I wish sometimes that I haad gone with the Injen Cold Air intake becaseu my roomate has it on his 02 and it sounds mean!! But for the money it is a great setup and coupled with an exhaust my car has a pretty mean growl to it.

You do not need a bypass valve for Warm Air Intakes since they sit high up in the engine. CAI's sit low to the ground where water COULD be sucked up into the intake manifold. Although it's rare that this will happen with the CAI's available to us Max owners.
