Brake grinding on a 2000 SE w/ 30k

To all those Brake gurus on Max.org,

Need some help!

I have problems with brake moaning/grinding just before vehicle comes to a complete stop. It's a really really low frequency grind.. Only happens when I do alot of city driving with the stop-n-go traffic. Anyone else have this problem? I've taken it twice to a Nissan Dealer, but as obvious as it sounds.. they said, "..there's nothing wrong, brakes work great, it's NORMAL to have grinding sounds.. & blah blah.."

So, I am wondering if any of you had this problem before, what causes it (warped disc? pads?), and how can i fix it since Nissan is too busy to handle a brake issue for a customer (sad times)..

Thanks in advance for any advise!

im not a brake guru but grinding noise is not normal. 00 and 01 have problems with warping rotors. perhaps they are so warped they have the pads in such bad condition that its staring to be caliper on rotor. i had my rotors cut at 9k with new pads and i have not had a problem since. ive got 25k by the way. the tsb is covered for 36k, i suggest you take it back and suggest to them that the rotors might be warped and be ready for them to say well you can pay for them. then show them the TSB and see where it goes from there.

TSB

Print off the TSB and have it done. I had the same problem. Bring it in before the warranty is expired. Might as well get the tranny and wind noise done too. Tranny is for an automatic. For the brake judder, they resurface the rotors and put new pads on. I have had no problems since.

I guess this is old news but does anyone else find it appalling that you need to print out the TSB and take it to the dealer to get them to do the work?

Agreed. Crap, they are Nissan (even if privately owned, they are an extension of Nissa) and Nissan is the source of the TSB. You would think it would not be necessary but it is.

Dude, you got lucky. For the most part, I'd say you can just bypass the entire TSB altogether and just order aftermarket rotors and pads. Mostly ppl including myself who had the TSB done just ended up with the same problem a short while later. You can save time and frustration just expensing for new brakes

Thanks All for your feedback!

NyMaxedOut: I'm running on stock 17" SE rims. What brand of aftermarket rotors/pads would you or anyone else on this site recommend??

Thanks again all.

Go with Powerslot rotors and Axius (-sp?) Metal Masters pads ...

I called www.raceconcepts.net and got brembo blanks for the front (highly recommended) but they didnt have them for the back so I got EMC blanks. I got Raybestos Quiet Stops from Pep Boys for a real smooth braking experience. Trust me, thats the best thing that happened to my brakes since getting the car.

I had the same problem with my 2000 Max and changed my brake pads on all 4 wheels,( Autozone pads )at 35,000 miles ( although they din't need it), and the sound went away. I believe the brake pad surface is probably softer than stock, and less noisy, espicially when hot!
hope this helps

John
