OK... I was wondering... for those of you who have installed this on your Maxima...

1) Did you notice a difference? Any gains?

2) Have you had any problems with emissions testing?

Thanks!

You should see possibly 1-2hp gain at a minimul if anything...

Funny that they dyno tested it on a 1995 Maxima BUT you can't buy one for that year because it's not avaiable yet ("Coming Soon"?) ?

im not sure but i think it replaces youre catalytic or somethin around their,if u noticed their the random tech race pipe too, that looks a little better for performance, anyhow if it does give 11hp u would have seen people with it all over the forum

I started a GD a number of months ago and about 30 or so people bought them including me. I MAY have noticed a SMALL increase in the 3-4k rpm range, but it could be just in my mind. Overall sound didn't increase so I can't complain. Besides, the GD was going for $50 shipped, so you can't go wrong!!

testpipes replace cats and dont have too much of an effect on performance for newer cars.

1 thing you will notice will be a check engine light due to the cat monitor (downstream O2 sensor) saying the cat isnt working......no ****....its not there.

No way to bypass this?

I have a question about bypassing the CEL too. These new $tealin headers coming out for the 5th gens will replace the pre cats, so how do we not get a CEL with these on? Or a racing straight pipe for that matter? Do you just live with it?

Especially when the car has a 100,000 mile warranty on it and you don't want to get flack from the dealer...

this is my $0.02.

you can dyno a car on a really hot day with no mod and then dyno it again during a very cold day with mods to see more gain. For this case, I dunno if the maxima they used here had a clogged cat during the first dyno or it was dynoed in different days. Then once you free flow it, it doesnt surprise me to see a high gain like this. In addition, other performance mods may help in gaining this 11 hp, esp the y pipe and the cat back. Remember the 4hp gain just with K&N drop-in from import tuner in 2000??

IMO - this mod will benefit those boosted maximas. It will do a little for NAs.

FYI - running with no cat can get a big ticket, $2800 in the Bay Area. Yes! it will fail the smog check. You have to put the cat back in for smog check.

About the CELs...for Fed spec 2k Maximas, it has an O2 sensor on the b pipe behind the cat. It might throw a CEL if a test pipe is installed. For Cali spec, there is no O2 sensor after the cat.

In order to eliminate the precat, you have to convert your cali spec vehicles to fed spec by getting a new fed spec manifold and relocating your O2 sensor. check out the how-tos stickie, it was done by DesertPearl.

And those of us in the Chicago area... it may still pass emissions? Laws here aren't as tight as CA, and car emissions can still run clean without a Cat.

I have a test pipe from www.testpipe.com at a third of the price of the one on custommax, gains are barly noticable, and Ive never seen a CEL come on and a few other members here can say the same. On a 5th gen the 02 sensor is in front of the cat or atleast mine was(cali spec 2K)

Just my .02

nope....cant pass any emission without a cat. with the precat, you only cover one side of the engine.

This only applies to FED SPEC vehicles. No CALI SPEC vehicle has an O2 sensor after the cat. They are before them.

I have a straight pipe and dont have issues cause there is no o2 sensor to worry about. You would be to relocate or trick the o2 sensor on the fed spec car.
