Okay, had my car 10 days now.....no racing until I hit 1,000 miles on the odometer. Tonight a kid in a Pontiac Grand Am SE pulls up on my left at a light and leans over, trying to see what kind of car I am driving I guess. Wants to race, so I take off on green. Had 3 or 4 car lengths on him by 70, very easy as would be expected. We both have to stop at the next light as well, he agains lays rubber (barely) as he takes off, I let him have about 4 car lengths then I take off and catch him quickly. At 100 mph he is way back. I actually was expecting to beat him by even more. Anyway, lame opponent but he DID want to race and it WAS my first time in the new car.

Congrats on the new purchase... sounds like you bought a manual.

Yeah.....

it's a manual, what tipped ya off?

I would like to wait at least a year before performance mods......there is no way I will make it though, the urge is already so strong. Dont want to needlessly ruin the warranty.

What tipped me off was the car lengths you pulled on him.

If you don't want to have the modding temptation, then don't ever come back. If you stay, you'll break down an go mod crazy.

Welcome aboard!

congrads....on the kill

What a feeling...oops I mean any kill is just great with a new car....kinda builds the confidence up.

I said the same thing about waiting awhile and not to disturb the warranty but....hehe couldn't stand the wait, besides, just take off the damn thing before you go in for the problem fix.

Welcome...

Don't worry about the Pontiac, you'll find plenty of morons that will attempt to race you...

Quick example : I'm heading home a few days ago, and this kid in an old volkswagon (92, 93 maybe) has been riding my *** for a few minutes.. (I was in left lane doing like 75, and traffic in the right hand lane was a lil' bit slower, so I wasn't about to move for him).. Anyway, we hit a straight, clean stretch of road, he jumps over to the right hand lane, pulls up alongside, looks at me, grins, stays parallel for a few secs, and then guns it... So do I.... (i saw his aftermarket exhaust.. but not for long!!!)

Now, even tho I have an automatic (for reasons we shall NOT go into right now), i'm sure you see how this ended up... Well after a few secs (he had a jump on me), I was next to him, and pulling away hard... (maybe 110-120 mph)... After a few more secs, it was a clear victory (i'm talking maybe 10-20 car lengths) for me... and he was nowhere near catching up.. (by the way his engine sounded, I'm surprised it didn't fall out... )

So I let off the gas and put my blinker on to get into the right hand lane (my exit was coming up)., ... Funny thing is this kid still had the nerve to flip me the bird as he drove by...

-Tom

PS... this type of encounter isn't even worthy of the title kill.. it's just plain silliness... sorta like racing a moped, or an old lady in a wheelchair... you know what i mean... don't you??
