mazda MX6?!!!

curious, how fast are mazada MX 6?

i have a 2002 max SE auto with franken car intake and y-pipe, and going to race a mx6 manual with intake and exhuast. I was wondering how close is this race going to be to the 60mph and in the 1/4. Do i got a chance??

thx!

An MX6??? You should walk him pretty badly. Those cars weren't much to look at, and they sure weren't a competitor, performance-wise, to the Max. What year is the MX6?

If it is an older version with Turbo and modified they can be very very quick.

Looks like the HEAVILY modded ones are capable of mid-14's, and the mostly spec ones are running mid-high 15's.

Well within the realm of the 3.5VQ

the reason for this post is that one of my neighbor has one and he's been talking bad on my VQ35DE ever since i got it earlier this year. Since i'm in school i hardly have the opportunity to see him, but within the next few weeks i will be able to run against him. Just doing a little homework before the race

Don't callenge him in the twisties bc those cars handle like there on rails. As far as straight line acceleration its not a contest.

The last year they were produced was 1997. The stock stats on that car is as follows:

2.5L V6 - 164hp @ 5600rpm - 160ft/lbs tq. @ 4800rpm
0-60 7.5 secs
Handling .86 g
Weight: 2625 lbs

It's the same basic car as the Ford Probe GT. Instead of turbo-4s (on original GTs) they got 2.5L V6s. My aunt had one and it was quick, but not neck-snapping quick.

If you can hook up your tires w/o problems you will crush him.

Absolutely correct. Work on your launch, and let your VQ do the rest of the work for you. It'll be over in less than 600 feet.

My first car was a 93Probe GT, (exactly the same as a MX6 V6, but with different tires and stiffer spring rates) and that car was phenomenal in the curves. You couldn't beat a car that cost as little as it did; for bone stock handling.

As far as straight line acceleration its not a contest.

Matt
My next one was a 95PGT, it had a Garrett T-3. And was making about 230WHP, in a 2700lb car, that one was pretty quick

And as a matter of discussion, if you swap the KL03 out of that car, with the Japanese Spec. KLZE motor, things can get pretty interesting. (I am doing this same swap on my buddies car in my garage right now ) That engine is a higher compression free'r flowing one, that with the right bolts on's, (I/H/E) can easily make 200-210WHP, again in a light car.

But, if its stock, or even with mild bolt ons, the Max will destroy it in a straight line.

Friend of mine has a turbo'd MX6, that thing is mighty quick indeed, looks stock down to the wheels. People haven't a clue what's coming.... With no turbo, slowtown USA

I'm not sure he can hang with you there either. That 2.5L V6 really loves 3200+ RPM, but it's still your race as long as you get a good hook on launch. Don't worry about the mid range speeds. Also, find out if he has LSD in that thing. If so, then you should get a bit more worried on the takeoff part. My old CSVT could hang for the first 60' against an '02 Max, but after that, I was left behind (that is, as long as the Max could hook up). Just too damn much power in the 3.5L VQ. The Max is one of the only cars that ever made me want to get rid of my CSVT.

I had a 1994 626 V6 5speed which is pretty much the same as the MX6 V6. While they're not as fast as a 2K2 Maxima, don't sleep on them. They have relatively low torque so off the line they wont do much without some good revving but they also have no torque steer. But from 30+ my 626 pulled VERY good for a 164hp midsize sedan; I'd beaten my fair share of 4G Maximas during the time I had it.

That said, you'll beat him in a 30-120mph run. Peace.

now dont get too confident, just practice your take off because if your tires dont catch and you start spinning them u will loose. I had that happen to me couple of times. Dont press the gas pedal all the way at first and once u r going then floor it. That car is no competition with the max, unless he's got some very serious mods done to it.

My brother has a MX6 95 V6 5spd. I would say it would hold head to head with my 2k1 auto. Remember the key difference is manual vs auto. He gets the edge if he shifts right.

Intake and exhaust will not put him in the hp range to beat you. I have a friend with a 93PGT, manual with I/E. It would be murder if we'd race.

The closeness of the race (car lenghts) depends on how good of a driver he is.
