235/40/18 on 18x7.5 rims?

Now I understand that according to the Tire and Rim Association this is not ok, but I was wondering if anyone has ever had a problem with this setup. Each tire shop I have tried on the web has suggested 235/40/18's whenever I have selected 18x7.5 rims, which makes me think people are running them with no issues.

I would be perfectly happy running 235/45/18 but I cannot find this size anywhere. None of the tires I have looked up are manufactured in this size. If anyone can point me to some good tires in this size that would be sweet. I wish the rims I want to buy were 18x8's, but they don't make them in that size.

All help and feedback is much appreciated.

That would be even worse than the 235/40/18.

Stick with the 225 40 18. It looks great and is recommended.

According to the Tire and Rim association chart 235/45/18 is ok on a 7 1/2 inch wide rim. With the 225/40/18 my speedo would be off by 3% (too fast). With either the 235/40 or 235/45 it would 1.8% too fast and 1.8% too slow.

BTW how do you like your FZ4's? That is one of the tires I'm considering.

FZ4's are not very good tires if you like road noise, and bad tire wear.. Its a nice looking tire and performs(cornering), but its not for comfort.

I like my Toyos. I have had them for about 15,000 miles and there is zero uneven wear. As far as comfort goes.....they are a little stiff.

stick with 225 cuz it will look nicer with 7.5 width rims, i used to have 235 on my rims but the side wall looks kind of "baby fat" so i changed to 225 and not looks like no "baby fat" at all

Thanks for the advice... I think I will go with the 225's. As far as the specific tire I am leaning towards the Nitto 555's. I would like to get the Pilots or some S-03's but am trying to save a little cash.

Has any body seen 225/40/18 Nitto 555's anywhere for less than $126 each shipped? If so let me know...

check out my homepage. I have 235's on a 7.5 wide rim. Doesnt look like there is any "baby fat" to me. In fact to me there isnt enough fat as i curbed them once

If you go 225/40/18 arent you going too much below the load rating of 93??

I don't see the "baby fat" on yours either. The rims and tires both look sweet.

As far as load ratings, the 225/40/18's are 92. Yours (235/40/18's) are 91. The 225s are actually a little better.
