You should be able to get a completely bare bones stripper GXE model for $19k plus change.

uh...not likely...unless he buys a brand new 2000 instead of buying a 2001.
i paid mine $23,700. and i don't have a sunroof, did not come with a factory CD-player, no convinience and comfort package for me, no alloy rims(came with steel wheels with 205/65/15 tires), no power-seat, no bose, no foglights, no chrome exhaust finisher, no leather(i don't care) and many other things....heheh....

things that i did get? well, let's see....i got the ABS, 5-speed(hell yeah!!), uh.....oh, yeah! and that great engine!!!!!

well, i could have bought another max with everything(almost) on it, but it was not a manual shift. so i was left with this car...but i don't ever regret buying this car!
for me, it's always more fun to fix up my ride than to drive a factory loaded cars...(no offense to people with fully loaded cars..)
i've done some modding to compensate the lack of factory options!! and it's sooooo much better!!!
plus, my car is lighter than the SEs or other Max...so, i guess that means i'll win when we fight for that .0001 sec eta....

Well, I don't know....I have seen them advertised for a shade under $20k in the papers and the invoice price for a 2001 GXE is $19,430. Add taxes and tags to that and you will be a few hundred bucks over $20k (depending on your state tax of course ). So maybe it is possible if you get a good deal.

not under 19k but under 20k

You can get the base gxe for $19,988.00 at http://www.carsdirect.com and they deliver it to your driveway. That is where I got my Maxima with no complaints at all.

i've been to Mossy Nissan when i was shopping for my car. the thing about them is that Mossy Nissan will not negotiate the price.
they will get a price on a car from the computer and that's it! not even a dime can be shaved off from the computer price..
and uh...yeah, they have Maximas for $19,499...but like only one! and it's probably for the 2000 model.
i don't know. maybe i'm the only one that had unpleasant experience with Mossy Nissan(in National City), but i didn't like the way they did business at all.....
oh, yeah, one more thing, they give you $HIT for your trade-in too!!!
