ABS saved the Max...

Going to the movie theater after dinner Wednesday night. Driving about 45 mph down a winding, 2-lane back road. Roads are soaked from earlier rain. Me and my buddy were chatting away about something. I pass an oncoming car and pop on the bright lights. 50 feet or so up the road is a HUGE deer. She was standing on the left shoulder and was trotting across the roadway. I slammed on the brakes and felt the pedal pulsating, heard the Poor-tenzas lock up on the wet road for a few milliseconds, and then... I just steered right around that sucker! I passed right around her rear end as she crossed my lane. Without ABS, I'd be posting about how I hit a big-a$$ deer. Even with the $hitty tires, the brakes did their job and allowed me to drive the car under full-on braking.

My buddy, who was, of course, grabbing the dashboard and the "OH $HIT" handle, looks at me and says in a very serious voice, "If we were in my truck ('00 Expedition), we'd have hit that f*cker".

Then we both busted out laughing and went to see Old School.

Yet another reason to love my Maxima!!!

Yes, ABS and EBD are great. When used properly, like you did, its a very effective tool against preventing accidents. I wouldnt know what to do without it. Some people just rely on ABS to help them stop on a dime, but it doesnt really work that way, it helps the driver steer clear of danger. I've had a friend tell me ABS sucks and that it didnt help him stop in time before he rear-ended a truck, i told him he was supposed to steer clear and allow the brakes to keep the car under control, every try slamming on non-abs brakes in the rain or dry? no control at all!

About 2 weeks ago it was coming down pretty hard around here. I was making a lane change and when I looked back up from my shoulder check I realized that the Jeep Cherokee that was now in front of me had slammed on his brakes so I jammed on mine. I could feel the pulsing on the brake pedal as the car uneventfully came to a complete stop about a foot shy of the Cherokee's rear bumper. That's the second time an ABS equipped car has saved my bacon. I'm a believer too.

Yeah ABS really helps.
Just yesterday I was driving kinda fast and this squirrel runs out on the road, I slam my brakes and ABS kicks in and I steer passed it.
I think brake system on 2002 SE that I have now is better compared to 2000 SE I had before. They both have ABS, but 2002 has this EBD and BA systems. I think that brakes on 2002 have more stopping power to them.
Rotors still suck on both of them as they get warped to easily.
