I've posted on this before but maybe I didnt explain it correctly..to be short and quick...If I take a right with a bit more speed than normal and if there is any depth change(a hill etc) I hear a what sounds like that noise when you first move the car(the crushed can sproing)and if my foot is on the brake I feel a bang(best way to describe it)

Am I bottoming out or is the suspension? If I take these same corners at a slower speed everything is fine...

My 91 GTS sat lower to the ground than the Max and I never remember feeling this before

That "crushed can spoing" sound is your anti-lock brakes. It has something like a self check every time you start the car and go a few feet.

Whenever you take a hard right and have that depth challenge that you talked about..and then feel a bang on the brake pedal...what you are probably experiencing is the anti-lock brakes engageing. The sensors are somehow detecting a difference in wheel spin because of those two variables.

Just what I think..but I could be wrong.

Like warrlocked said....It does sound like the ABS is trying to compensate in that situation. That 'sproing' noise when you first staret off is the ABS pump doing a self-test by pressurizing.

I have a GLE and the suspension is so soft I bottom out going down my driveway but I do not hear any funny noises. I can't wait for new struts/springs.

I mean the "bang" feels harsh like something in the suspension is hitting the ground...Im also not standing on the brakes when I take thses corners...sometimes just feathering them....is ABS really that violent? I almost swear that if I take the corner without brakes I get the same noise...maybe not...one of those things you cant remember if it does it or not Not really something you like to keep trying to recreate in case I am doing damage to the car

If you take a corner hard enough, you'll bottom out. One of the few times I've bottomed out when I was going 45 in a 15 that does a tight 360 degrees downwards.

The noise was like "clunk clunk clunk..." until straigthened out a bit. Is this your problem? How hard are you taking the turns?

Kev that Clunk Clunk Clunk is the ABS. It senses the wheel is looseing grip so it trys to grab the rim, and the 17" wheels are heavy so the ABS kicks in very fast. I take hard turns and my car even though its lowered it doesn't bottom out. it'll rebound real hard but it doesn't bottom out.

I know what ABS sounds/feels like... sort of like a machine gun, but this was totally different.

Machine GUN, Kev R U standing on the break pedal again? The only time I hear that is when I'm trying to get out of a super OverSteer situation.

I get the machine gun sound if I brake very hard while turning and coming to a stop.

The clunking/thumping noise is most likely bottoming out because the 360 downward turn is really tight.

actually the ABS pump should

start whenever enough speed diff is noticed between the wheels.. so you will feel the kickback regardless of how much brake you apply...

BUMP STOPS!

I would make sure all bump stops are in, all four corners.

Bump stops prevent you from fully bottoming out...

The noise happened before my bumpstops were cut. I haven't tried taking that turn hard after the chopping.

Well

thanks to the mini ice storm we got just north of Boston yesterday I finally got the full effect of what ABS feels like....yep...that harsh bang, bang, bang is the same noise and feeling I get when taking that corner real quick. Sure as hell feels like the car slamming into the ground

I'm still a little curious as to why the ABS kicks in so easily though...I mean I'm not taking this corner at 40 mph and the change in height is not THAT dramatic!

Oh well..at least I know I'm not trashing the bottom of the car
