Will 6th gen arrival kill 5th gen resale?

With the 6th gen hiting the lots, how long until the 5th gen style takes a plummet in value? Or do you think it will stay relatively flat? Seems my 99 fell off in value HARD within 2 years of the 5th gen being out.

1st of all resell(1-3 years) on the Max has never been that great, resale already isnt that great on the Max with all of the rebates etc., I dont think it want hurt it that much more. The 5th to 4th gen transition didnt hurt 4th gen resale that much and 4th to 3rd didnt as well. Some 98 and 99 Maximas are still selling for a nice penny here in my area. If you buy a 02/03 Maxima just plan on keeping it at least 4 to 5 years where resale want hurt you. Buying brand new cars often is not wise if you like to switch cars every 2 or 3 years your better off leasing.

I complete agree with Monte. This was the same experience I had when I bought my 5th gen. 99's were on the lot but difference in cost was around 5-6K. Back in Aug'01 when I bought it .. '00 were 20K and 99's were for 14K. Not that much of a kill!

I am keeping mine (2K2) through the extended warranty (5 years) - then it's turbo time!

2000-2001 have flattened out.. albeit already really low
2002-2003 is taking the plunge

but that is true of all cars, after 50% depreciation slows

I have stopped flagellating myself for my

cars drop in value.
Now I'm enjoying that it's only 22 months away from being paid for, still has only has 13.2k miles on it, I still love it and I'm back on the 'slow, stealthy mod' trail.

resale

another factor for 5th generation resale is the fact that the 2000's are just coming off their leases. I have been looking for a 5th gen since last summer here in CT, and a nice one was all of $20000. Now they can be had with decent options for $15000 and it seems like every used car dealer in the area has at least 1 or 2 on the lot.

The 5th gen is already depreciating at an unbelievable rate. Relative to remaining value, I don't think it will look that bad. Just ride it out baby.
