Are the three screws on top of the front suspension assembly (where the FSTB is bolted to) VITAL to be tight?

I just found out that I bought a torque wrench with inch/pd instead of ft/pd. And I install my FSTB with it a month ago, thinking the screw was rather loose. I had recongnized my mistake when I try to retorque my wheels this morning, and I thought how can I drive it if the wheel nut is so loose...

My question is, concerning the FSTB, did I mess up my alignment? Or should I expect anything worse? Or I should simply buy a new wrench and retorque them?

Please HELP

Relax, you didn't wreck anything. You may have

temporarily caused some extra rattles and loose cornering, but it will be alright once you retorque the nuts. Remember there are 12 inches in a foot, so 12 inch-pounds equals 1 foot-pound. So if you scale goes up high enough, you can just torque the nuts to 12*35 inch-pounds or 420 inch-pounds. I suspect that you probably bought a 3/8" drive torque wrench and you would probably get more use out of a 1/2" drive. See if you can return it.

Thanks Rit!

So I guess the front suspension is NOT attached to the three nuts...if so where does it attaches to? If the nuts are not used for attaching the suspension, then what are they used for? Just for FSTB? What if you unscrew those nuts and drive the car, what would happen?

Also, when I retorque my wheel at 85 ft/lb, not to commend on my fitness, will I be can to do them by hands?

Just want to get it stright...

Yes, they are attached to the suspension, but

I'm assuming that you had the nuts on finger tight, and nout just dangling loose, so the bolts/studs didn't fall out of the holes in the shock tower. Now, if they did, you would have had big-time problems with the wheels very crooked, but this is very unlikely.

As fas as the lug-nuts, my wife can do 85 ft-lbs, and she only weighs 110 lbs. Enough said? 85 foot-pounds means that if you are turning a 1 foot long wrench, you only need to put 85 pounds of your body weight or strength into it to generate 85 ft-lbs. If the wrench were 2 feet long, then it would only take 42.5 pounds of force. Your lug-nut wrench in the trunk is probably about 1 1/2 feet long so it would require about 60 pounds of force to generate 90 ft-lbs of torque.

Thanks again, but sorry for being annoying...

So you are saying, the nuts on the shock tower has nothing to do with alignment, or at least, I shouldn't be worried about the wheels being out of alignment...

The 3 bolts/studs go through 3 holes in the Shock Tower -

inside the fender. There is little play in the 3 holes versus the 3 bolts. Yes, if there was play, then you could change the allignment - both camber and caster, but I believe it if designed to be in a "fixed' postion. Some people have purchased "camber plates" that allow them to adjust the camber. This may be needed after lowering their car, but I don't think you have anything to worry about. Unless you elongated the holes in the shock tower by not having the nuts tight enough, but this is very unlikely.
