I have a few paint chips on my car, I had taken it back to the dealer only 4 months after the car was purchased , he said it was from road debris, they were just too huge for that. I noticed my car is stratched easliy , i have a 97 kia sephia and have been the only owner and i dont have nearly as many stratches nor does it stratch as easliy as my maxima.

2000 miles on my '03 Max and already several chips on the bumper and hood. The worst part about this is when I bought the car I made the sales manager throw in a nose mask for the sale to happen. I took the stupid thing off because I saw the grime that was getting underneath there(3 or 4 days after purchase), and only drove it TWICE on the highway with the mask off. Later, I put the magnetic bra on, and this seems to help a little, but my bumper is still exposed... Should I use the bottom part of the nose mask along with the bra, or will this trap stuff underneath like the top part of the mask seemed to do so well??? I don't care if it looks goofy, I want my paint to last (at least a little freekin bit!!!) Jeez!
Damn skippy I am in!
Jacked off
I just have to say...finally a law firm picked this up. Just hope Nissan just doesn't settle out of court with this law firm just to end this claim. I felt from the beginning of this topic that we have a very good case but just needed one voice to speak on our behalf.
Knowing any large corporation, will just grease the squeaky wheel instead of fixing the problem through a 50 State settlement/recall. *hint* *hint* ...Thanasides, Zalkin & Acero for the sake of all Nissan owners, please don't fall to the dark side
Sorry guys, just being realistic.
Ok I signed up...Now, let's get serious about this. We just sign up with them to participate in their litigation. What is their next step? Have they filed the paperwork, when is their hearing or has it been scheduled?
Straight from tzalaw.com page: "* The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely upon advertisements. Before you decide, ask us to send you free written information about our qualifications and experience. "
Fellow Board Members: Can we?

Well I filled out my info yesterday, and had a nice long conversation with Mark Tamblyn about my experiances with NNA regarding the paint... Overall I am very satisfied that we (the MAX owners community) may finally get some results
I know my personal ordeal with NNA has spanned almost 3 years of complaints, inspections, etc.... and have until now I have never felt I had any chance of NNA doing anything.

just talked to my professor who was a lawyer for GE and Met life for like 15 years. i told him about your case and i asked him what we should do. he said we have a very good chance of winning this. what he told me to do is take pix of car with the dates on the pictures. also look for other cars that is the same year and around same miles and compare them. if the maxima has a lot more then we will win. I was wodnering what we can get out of this?? and i was thinking wouldnt it be better if we got some kind of money deal instead of a new paint job??? since nissan paint suxs, i think paint chips will come back. so y not get money and get it painted somewere else with good paint? just wondering.... custom paint jobs cost around 1500 dollars so just tell nissan to cough up that money for every 5th gen owner. i think it will be better for us. tell me what u think and sorry for long post
take care

This is a PM I received from one of the Attorney's involved. So, just in case people are wondering whats going on-here is an explanation:

We have been slammed with inquiries. We actually took down our Google ad because of the number of inquiries. My firm, along with our four other partner firms in the litigation, which are located in California, Texas, New Jersey and Illinois, are slowly but surely making our way through each submission. If you have not been contacted already, the call is on its way. We are starting with those four states above. If you are in a different state, your call will come a bit later than others. Feel free to pass along the message. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

I did notice that he removed the ad from Google. My posting of this thread definately opened the flood gates. It didn't make sense to keep running it. Judging by the response to this, I think that this will be good for us. It looks like he registered here the day after he called me. I told him that I would post about the litigation and I agreed to be a class representative for my state.
I can only imagine the amount of work that this post has created for them.

2000 Toyota Celica.
Same exact problem. I had a 2000 Celica GT, then traded it in for a 2000 Celica GT-S (not for paint issues of course). The GT was silver, and the GT-S was blue. Same paint problems, and people on those forums were complaining too. I think other toyotas are having the same problem. So if we have to compare to other cars and show that we have more, it's going to be a tough one.

Re: !!!Nissan Paint Litigation for 5th Gen!!!
Thanks for the link. I posted my info, I am upset that the hood of my 2003 with 150 miles is already looking like the hood of my 1991 Maxima after 217,000 miles. Paint on the 91 is way tougher, not to mention my 2000 Galant which has no chips after 40,000 miles. I had to buy touch up paint after 1 week with my new Maxima, but STILL have not needed any for the Galant after 2 years.
Curing process? My Max was manufactured 3 months before I bought; seems like that would be adequate time for curing.

I will be jumping on this too. We just bought the Max a little over two weeks ago and it has a giant chip on the hood. I wouldn't even call it a chip it looks more like a flake. I am going to take pictures and send them off. I am ****ed because it is extremely obvious on the glacier pearl paint.
I hope something comes out of this!
boo

My max is 6 weeks old & has approx. 1600 miles on it. I have been very **** about keeping it clean. I have 2 small paint chips in the hood. My 1998 max with over 97,000 had a few rock chips in it, but looked as the result of "direct hit" by rocks. Anyone think the trend of the paint coming off will continue or will the paint possibly harden overtime?

Here is the link:

About 20 minutes after I entered the information, one of the partners called me. His name was Paul Thanasides. He said that they have been investigating this for about 3 months now. This lawsuit got started because of one of his friends. From what he told me, his friend has a 2001 SE black and the excessive paint chips came up in one of their conversations. They started looking on the web to see if other 5th gen owners were experiencing the same problem. They found the thread on the org.
He is going to be e-mailing me more information about this. I will post more information as I get it.
In the meantime, go to the link above and fill out the information.

UPDATE
I just received an e-mail this morning from one of the lawyers:
He said that they are getting ready to file in several states with more states to follow.
I can't reveal too much else.
Just wanted to let you know that things are in motion.

Did anyone get the most recent email from the attorneys asking you to sign the forms and fax or mail them back? It says that we have to produce documents and possibly have you car appear in court cases and so forth; even possibly appearing in court ourselves. Is everyone going to fill it out? I don't know if i want to get involved to this degree for a few paint chips. What do you guys think?

it's only the 5th Gen Maxima paint that sucks.
I've owned many Nissans, and this is the first I've had with this problem...

I have 1,800 on my Maxima and noticed the paint nicks on the bumper seems flaky campared to that of my 91 Honda. I have installed the invaca shield 3m clear bra on the hood and just ordered the kit for the whole front.
Another area that has me concerned is is on the front side of the rear fenders. Their in a line of sight with the front tires which are to wide for the fenders. I do have the splash guards on my vehicle.
I talked to Invinca Shield and they said their tech guy will go to the dealer too measure and design a piece for it. I hope they are true to their word.
