Accel times for Auto and 6 speed

I am looking at some used 2002 Maxima SEs. Inventory seems to be plentiful and most are autos. I currently have a 95 5 speed Maxima. Since SEARCH is down, what are the stock times 0-60 and 1/4 mile for auto and 6 speed? My wife thought the 02 auto felt faster than our car and I thought the opposite. But the '02 Maxima has traction control and well its hard to compare the auto to a manual.

I thought the 6 speed was in the mid to low 6s 0-60 and high 14s and 95+ in the 1/4 mile. Then I saw an article showing the auto was like 0-60 of 8 secs and it concerned me that I'd lose a ton of performance with an auto (having a hard time finding good priced 6 speed).

Maybe there ws already a thread on this you guys could point me to?

Re: Accel times for Auto and 6 speed

if you want a faster car...a 6speed would definitely be faster...but i'll tell u one thing..the auto is a hell of a lot faster 0-60 than 8 seconds. seems like the concensus around here was that the auto was about high 6s to low 7s..compared to the low to mid 6s for the 6 speed. don't quote me on that, but those were the figures that come to mind. i say try to go with the 6speed unless the price they say is outrageously higher than the auto. if you're a performance fanatic, manuals are the way to go.

i have an auto, and i love it. but i would have gotten a 6speed, if the dealer hadn't asked for $1500 more. both are great cars. you'll enjoy whichever maxima you choose. hope this helps.

stock 2k2 auto, i ran 14.827@94ish, 6.4 seconds 0-60 G-tech estimated. i dont know about the 8 second thing...one time, with 900 miles on the car, a full tank of gas, and a 200 lb friend in the car, we hand timed 7 seconds flat 0-60. that being said, i think the difference between auto and stick is around .5 seconds - a very typical difference in other models of cars as well.

Did the article you read state that they got their times from the I35 auto? They are much heavier cars even though they are our sister car. I think others estimates are correct. The auto is about .3 to .5 slower than the 6 speed to 60. The 1/4 runs high 14's stock while the 6 speed is mid 14's stock. This is for the average joe. Some are faster and some auto's are freak cars like blubyu2k2 which ran low 14's with just an intake.

Wow thanks for the responses. Im not as worried about the auto now. You test drive a car and teh adrenaline is flowinf cause your excited, then you take I home and a week later its not what you expected. Amd yes one of the articles was for the I35. Had a hard timer finding anything for the 3.5 motor. Seems everyone tested the 2000 model and didn't care when the 3.5 came out.

Don't know exactly how fast my 95 is. Guessing mid 6s to 60 and high 14 low 15 sec 1/4 (have Y pipe and intake). Have a couple buyes for it at $4K with 125K miles on it so this may be my chance to move to your guys' forum.

either way the 6 speed is faster how ever you go bout finding it. I just picked up my 03 se 6 spd and trust me you get one and you wont regret it. Just remember you cant downshift in an auto, well you can but you get me.....if you have driven stick stay with stick, you will definitly regret it

Edmunds.com states that the 0-60 time for 6 Speed SE is 6.3 seconds. I'm sure the auto is just tenth of seconds behind the 6 speed like these other guys up there...and of course I don't think its 8 seconds...Hope it helps you out.

I typically see 6.6-6.8 depending on road conditions here in GA. That's with a standard loadout (street tires, street gas levels, CD books, flashlight, spare tire, jack, etc etc...)

Without mods and crazy tire spin ( 1300 RPM launch with 25PSI ) I was able to pull a best of 14.908 yesterday. Stock 2k2 auto. Best 60' was 2.347 which was worse than my run in November when I pulled a 2.208 60' for a 14.924 run.

Those crap-tenzas have gotta go!

I run to 60 in 6.65 and do the 1/4 14.76 @ 93.9 mph in my stock 03 auto with just 2,100 miles and its is getting stronger everyday I have the timeslip around here somewhere. The 02/03 auto are definately quick and fun for an auto that is, that 8.5 sec to 60 you saw must have been for an 00/01 Max auto or I30. Something really has to be wrong for an 02/03 Max or even the heavier I35 to put down 0-60's in that range.

If I recall correctly, that 8 second 0-60 time for the auto 2K2 was accomplished by Consumer Reports which also recorded a 16.XX second ET. I think I could do that in reverse.

Anyhow, my own best time and timeslip are in my sig.

Peace.
