Broke the head of a bolt?

Like a dummy I tightened the bolt for the FrankenCar support bracket on the strut tower. Any ideas on how to remove it?

Oh my..

I thought i was the only retard that did that too.. It was right on the strut tower assembly..

Let me guess.. u used the stock bolt to hold the bracket, kept on turning and it bent and snapped the head off.

What i did was pay a mechanic $40CDN, and bought a new bolt from nissan (those bolts are $10 cdn)... and he drilled out the old and cut the new OE bolt down to size. Now everything fits perfect.

No worries..

drilling out

drilling out the old bolt is typically what you do. You use a steel cutting bit that is smaller than the original bolt. You can try a bolt of the same size fed in behind the first. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm not sure if I should attempt it myself or pay someone. I'm scared like hell to screw the threads up.

I used the original bolt which of course is way too long for that particular hole. I put 4 washers on the top. It really didn't take much to break it off. It was turning pretty easily.

A friend of mine actually used some kind of epoxy to put a snapped bolt back together. It worked long enough for him to GENTLY unscrew the bolt. It wasn't a very heavily torqued bolt though.

On second thought... you'll probably have to drill it out.

Definitely, let someone do it who has done it before. Otherwise, you might end up with a snapped bolt AND unusable threads in the bolt hole!

Basically drill the bolt out, or use a screw out tool, depending on how wide the bolt is. Even if you do mess the threads up, it isn't a big deal, just re-tap them and you're set.

If you have some small part of the bolt sticking out, you can use this tool:

If not--pay somebody to do it for you!
