heated mirrors? II

I don't have the Meridian package.

When I was putting in my new horns I was looking at the relays. In the relay box on the passenger side there is a socket for a relay that is labled "Heated Mirrors" with no relay but it is wired.

I was wondering if Nissan used the same mirrors for most of the cars and they just don't install the relay for that part on the package. All the other wiring is already run also just no switches. I can't see them using the same seats or steering wheel because of the price but the mirrors may be cheap enough when bought in bulk. Also since the mirrors are activated by the rear window defroster and not another switch this may be the case. Just put in the relay, and probably a fuse, to complete the circuit. It's just if the mirrors are the same or not.

What do you guys think?

What's up bro! I think you're right in that Nissan builds cars prewired so that they can limit the variation in production and save cost, but I'm thinking that the heating element is missing from the mirrors. If you can add a heating element to them, then I don't see why you can't just wire them to work.

I have meridian so I can't do it, but wouldn't it be easy enough to buy the relay/fuse/whatever and give it a try?

I don't think they come with the heated element by default, but you can check easily. Put a cloth covered screw driver in the lower gap between the mirror, in the middle and then gently tilt screw driver handle toward the ground. The mirror will pop out.

If by chance you have the element (i doubt this) you could buy a relay and give it a shot. I think the wires are all there though but no element, kinda like the whole heated seat tease.

The mirror assembleys are NOT the same. There are actually 2 different part numbers for each mirror.

PART #: DESCRIPTION: SUGGESTED RETAIL:
96302-3Y001 Left side w/o heat $178.20
96302-3Y101 Left side with heat $187.12
96301-3Y001 Right side w/o heat $178.20
96301-3Y101 Right side with heat $187.12

Thanks for the part numbers. The question is though is the wiring harness in place already or is it an "option". This thread and the "Heated Mirrors?" thread state the opposite. I would hate to but the mirrors just to find the harness missing.

It is entirely possible that the wiring is there. My '01 Accord had the wiring already in place when I bought the factory fog lights. I just had to hook them up...Others have reported that the wiring is there for the heated seats.

Hey kronman,

I called Goldstar in Worcester and they said I had to but the whole side mirror casing and all. Seems like they have no idea what they are talking about. Could you tell me if the part numbers you provided are good for a 2003 Max. If they are I will try to get them somewhere else and do the work myself.

I'd say if you don't remember when you got the car, hopefully you saved the window sticker. It should tell you on there. If you bought it used, I don't know what to tell you. Your webpage looks good, nice car. Good luck.
