!!HELP!! White haze on paint
This is the first time this happened. I've had my nose guard on for a few weeks. It rained earlier in the week, and I didn't get the chance to take it off. Well, anyway in the pouring rain last night I took it all off.
Today I look at my paint -- there's a white haze on the bumper that will not come off. I raced out and bought some Maguiar's cleaner wax i believe it was called that claims to remove light swirl marks, light oxidation and protect the finish. I also got the Yellow high tech wax paste. I already had the final step. Anyway, NONE of these products are removing it. I may have lightened it. I also got Mother's clay... it won't take it off either.
I have some Blue Coral scratch remover at home I'm going to try (the stuff isn't that good though). But I dunno if that's going to work. Is this so hard because it's the bumper and not metal?
I called Maguiar's, and they recommended the Medallian Paint Cleaner... which of course neither Pep Boys nor Kragan seems to have.
I'm seriously panicking here. My baby's in pain. I have to remove this cancer from the bumper. HELP!!!!

Nose Guard
Didn't anyone warn you that putting a nose guard on your car would damage the paint unless you take the time to clean it regularly. The dirt collects under the nose guard from rain and other weather conditions which results in paint damage due to the nose guard moving with dirt under it during normal driving. You might try a good polishing compound which will remove a thin layer of your clear coat and maybe correct your paint damage??

I'm going to bring it by the car wash tomorrow and see if they can buff it out. It's really weird. It doesn't look like a scratch or anything. It looks almost like a bit water spots or oxidation or something.
The nose guard was only on for a few weeks this time too. This is really weird.
Its not the dirt......
Its not the dirt that causes that....its the moisture. My nissan nose mask came with a warning saying how it should be dried regularly to prevent that dulling. Imagine putting a large drop of whater on a finished piece of wood furniture. it leaves that milky dull spot. Thats what happened to the paint but it won't really go away.
Nose guard damage
I think Mike may be correct regarding the moisture and dulling on the paint. Considering your options you still might try compounding the nose and then polishing. If that doesn't work you could try wet sanding with #1200 wet /dry sand paper and then polishing. If that doesn't work then put the nose guard back on your car and forget about it. If you don't like that option then you have to repaint your entire nose on your Maxima and never put back another nose guard. A lesson learned.
I would stop messing with it...
and take it to a body shop. It cant cost much to have them buff it. That way you dont do anymore damage. My take on that would be that if Clay bar cant touch it, then its out of your hands. Time for professionals. Not that they know more than you, but they would be liable for doing something stupid to your paint.

Try letting it dry out - polyurethane does the same thing - clouds when it absorbs moisture, then becomes clear again once it is really dry. Sun is generally best.

Thanks.. I think you're right. I brought it to a car wash/detailer couldn't get it out. But it seems to be fading. At any rate, I detailed the entire exterior today -- clay treatment, wax, and final step. I won't be putting the nose guard back on until Summer!

I now have this problem and am hoping to hear from you that this problem resolved itself! My wife just got an 03 GLE and one of the first things I bought for it was the bra, as we were taking a few road trips in the new ride. It has rained on it, it has been wet, and she didn't know and I didn't think about telling her to remove it. Today, cleaning the car, I see the white haze, like if you'd breathed on it, on the bottom left fender, by the wheel well, only it won't go away! Waxing, nothing has removed it. PLEASE tell me this goes away. I am so mad at myself for not ensuring she knew to take it off, or taking it off myself. I know better...I'm a fanatic about this thing...and it happened to me. This on top of the fact that last week, she backed into the truck and did $500 worth of damage to the bumper!
I need good news here, guys...

Well at least when you take it to the body shop for the rear bumper you can get a quote on polishing or repainting the front bumper. That's the only good news I have..sorry.
I got a bra for the car after my most recent bumper repaint, and this is why I only use it for long trips. It's a pain in the **** to put on and remove so much, but it's worth it.

Are you speaking from experience? It sounds like I'm screwed.

The best thing you guys can do after you get the dull finish removed from your Max's is to throw that pos bra away....come to think of it......throw it away now.......get a clear bra.........
