xm revisited...

people have been asking me how I have the skyfi mounted...

the wires come out from under the pocket, the cradle is stuck (firmly) to the pocket. There are no wires hanging out. There is plenty of room to use it when the car is in park. I notched the case *inside* the pocket. So, if I pull this out, you wouldnt know it had been there.

the antenna

I broke down and put in a fm modulator for now.. no, I'm not really happy about that..

but I ran out of patience with engine noise. I tried the radio ground, everything.. ground loop isolator.. I couldnt get a good clean signal with the bose hack. When I boosted that signal, I also boosted the whine.. as much as I tried, I could still hear it enough to drive me crazy.. So, the fm mod is in for now.. I dont think I will be happy with that for very long..

I think my Pioneer 903XM was cleaner sounding. (gave to wife). I like the 4 line display of the Delphi alot more, but whatcha gonna do? Not ever going back to FM if I can help it.

i thought u have to mount the antennae outside, on top of the trunk? but since u put it inside, does it affect the quality of the music?

From what I read on clubxm.com, the sound quality is not affected by positioning the antenna in the rear deck. Most people, me included, simply do not like that roof mounted antenna on a car

I dont mind justifying my topic, I've been asked where the skyfi will fit in a 5th gen without cheezing up the dash or modifying it so the mount could be removed later w/o damage. My PM is stuffed full of questions about it, so I thought I'd answer them all here... plus, if anyone wanted to know where to mount the carpet melting-hot Delphi modulator in a 5th gen, I thought I would share what I came up with.

As for the antenna, XM signals are not blocked by glass. you can even paint the antenna as long as the paint isnt metallic. Tint, if metallic, will block the signal... ALOT. To mount under the glass, you have to have a steep angle like a max.. wont work well inside a truck or suv.

and no, its not really true, I cant do whatever.. mods can be modded too
