Project AE Shifter
As most of you know, the installation of a 2001 AE automatic transmission shift **** has not been the easiest of transitions. I spoke to Dave Burnett of South Point Nissan today. He gave me an update on the issues and the progress made on getting this to work. I subsequently ordered the AE shift **** for my 2K, even though there were concerns.
There was some work ongoing in getting an entire shift assembly and making the **** work. This has been delayed somewhat. I ordered the **** irregardless of the work, by others, already done.
My goal is to get the **** and, quite frankly, do what it takes to make it work. I have the tools and the patience, plus I like the challenge.
It is encouraging that some who have tried installing such an item say, in summary, "it almost works", or at least say it is somewhat promising in that if you "shave this part" it makes it a closer fit, or do this and it makes it more close.
I figure with information such as this, and with the tools available, plus the desire to get that **** (the most important part :-) ), I figure I'll just do what needs to be done.
When I get the **** in and inspect it, I'll make a determination as to what I think can/needs to be done. I'll go from there and be sure to keep everybody posted on the progress.

I started hacking on the car today. I took out the console around the shifter. The entire thing needs to come out, from the climate control piece all the way back to the rear seat, where the rear drink holders are, all in an effort to reach the source of the shifter wires.
I did find where it appears the heated seat plugs are tied off under the center console area, waiting to be plugged in. I'm thinking about getting some switches, plugging them in, and seeing if my seats get heated.
I'm driving around tomorrow without a center console, which includes the hazards switch, change holder/ashtray, cup holder, and storage bin. I'll probably spill my coffee all over the place.
I'm gettin' ready for the shifter will arrive via UPS tomorrow.
