Why is rear suspension so bad?

Why is rear suspension so bad?
It seems like the rear end bottoms everytime I go over a speed bump. I have to almost come to a complete stop and slowly take speed bumps. I could go over them in wife's '97 Civic at close to 25MPH and it goes over fine. I hate it when I have to slow down so much and some idiot gets right on my tail. It's embarrassing with such a new car. Will the dealer do anything about it or will they simply tell me its normal? I'm sure this has probably been addressed before, but I can't do a search.

My 03 SE did the same thing. When the car was loaded it was down right scary when it bottomed out at speed. The roads down here in New Orleans have lots of bumps and undulations so the suspension caused me alot of concern. In addition the front end banged on bumps that my other cars, including my stiffly suspended RX-7, just rode over. Of course the dealer(s) all thought it was normal. I got rid of the car after 3 months due in part the poor suspension.

I suspect it is because the rear suspension is beam axle. I really hate Nissan for doing this. All other "normal" sedans, even SUVs, come with independent rear suspension. I believe Maxima used to come with one and they switched for some reason. Now I know why Max is not in 10 best list in C&D.
