New Rims

Im in the market right now for some new rims. I have 16" stock rims but i dont want to lose the performance if i get bigger rims, i acutally want to gain some. So what are the best rims for perfomance and looks. I dont want anything smaller then 16. But i would like to go bigger than 16 if possible, and keep the same performance. Thanks

get yourself some 18's... no use spending any money if you are going to keep the same stock size...

18's on low pros will definitly do the job... of course you are going to feel the road more, but come on sacrifice a little comfort and cruise in style...

I am also in the market for some new/used rims. I saw some on ebay. The evo's. I dont know anything about tires/rims sized and what it means to offset. Could explain this to me.

the rims size i was loooking at was 19x8.5 and tires are 225/35zr/19. These wheels have a +40 offset and 5x120 P.C.D. (I have no idea what this means) Can someone explain this to me and will it fit my 01 max?

Newbie...

225 series on an 8.5" wide wheel is a very, very, very bad idea.

Also, we are 5x114.3, not 5x120. They will not fit.

245/35-19 is closest with speedometer specs and wide enough for an 8.5" rim.

Thanks for the info. I was going to bid since it was at a good price. Hopefully in the future, there will be another set of evo's on ebay.

I worked in the automotive aftermarket for many years, and I can help you out here. Yes, those wheels should fit. The proper offset for your car is between 35mm to 40mm and the bolt pattern should be 5x114/120. For an explanation of offsets and other terminologies, go to www.tirerack.com. As for P.C.D., I'm pretty sure that they're referring to the finish of the wheel. I think it's an acroynym for "polished, clear coat, and ???". However, you can do better with the size of both the tires and wheels. Aesthetically, larger wheels with thin rubber band tire do look sharp, but performance wise, you lose out. In the real world, you need some actual height and thickness on the tires to absorb the imperfections of the road. They need to give enough for little rocks and pot holes so that you can achieve a balance of both handling and ride comfort. If I were you, I wouldn't go any larger than 18" for the wheels. You should, however, go wider (8" to 8.5"). As far as the tires are concerned, try 235's or 245's in 40 series. I'm sure you'd like the handling much better with those. And later if you decide to drop the car, try Eibach springs. They'll drop your front about 1.3" and the rear about 1" (actually it'll continue to settle a bit more in time), and they will fill the wheel well real nicely with your wheel/tire set up. Good luck.
