weighed 03 SE 17" wheel/tire, 50lb!!!!!!!

I installed the RSB last night and I had the wheels off, so I figured why not weigh them?
So I weighed the wheel/tire combo, factory 03 SE's 17" rims with OEM potenza's, and the beast weighs 50lbs exactly!!! That's just outrageously heavy.
So 4 wheels and tires constitutes 200lbs of horsepower rubbing rotational weight!
I am going to start looking for new wheel/tire combos......

I can tell you this, its much easier finding wheel weights than it is tire weights. You would be surprised how much some rubber weighs

Sounds somewhat lighter than the 00-01 rims(53lbs?)?

The 00-01 SE rims weigh ~23lbs. 14.6 oz. alone.

I think my 17-inch SS wheels with 275mm tires and rims weighed 45-pounds total. Or maybe I'm just remembering wrong.

I just saw some lightweight racing wheels that fit our Max's in 17x7 or 18x7...only I can't remember the weights or who made them. Maybe it was at home when I looked them up...

200 lbs. in rubber & rims....wow.

I wonder, would lighter rims in the same size change the comfort of the ride (better or worse)?

I would think that it wouldn't make much, if any difference, but unless someone has done it, then we won't know.

Ahh...data...facts..I love data..without data

one is just another dumba** with an opinion....

Check this link out: http://www.wheelspecs.com/main/index.php

Me have very light (17 lb) wheels shod with okay (24lb) Michelin tires, and soon (ahh, six weeks or so) to have ~9 lbs less weight at each front wheel thanks to the upcoming brake kit...

And to whom was that remark directed?

Whoa. That's heavy. My factory Lexus 17 incher with 235/45R17 doesn't weight that much. I had a set of 350Z Track Ray's wheels and they were pretty heavy too. They were heavier than the 19 inch Volk GTC's we installed on the car.

Your definitely right about that. I've got my lightweight rims but i'm not sure how to go about finding out about tire weights. Anybody have any suggestions or knowledge in this area?

http://www.eclipseforums.org/showthr...ht=tire+weight

This thread is from my other forum. While there are listed for the Eclipse wheels, there is a multitude of weights listed for tires. If you register there, (so you can use the search function) you will find a good deal of tire weight information. We have quite a few road race, and Auto X guys who live for tire specs

I knew I saw these wheels somewhere!!! They are in the newest JEG's catalog, on page 235-0. They are manufactured by Weld, and are under 13 lbs a wheel for either the 17x7 or 18x7 sizes. Called Racelite R/S

There you go guys/gals. They do have our lug pattern as well.

I just weighed my OEM Potenza's (tires only...for shipping purposes), they weigh 24.8 lbs each.

And my OEM wheels and OEM-sized Michelin Pilot Sport A/S, weigh 48 lbs each (if my memory serves me...I know it was less than 50, 'twas either 45 or 48, but I don't think the PS's are that much lighter than the Blowtenza's).

Thanks, that helps. Has anybody weighed the Sumitomo HTR's?

50 lbs - 41 lbs = 9 lbs

that's a total of 18 pounds in "savings" when putting down fwhp...

I need to get some light weight wheels...

50 lbs is rediculous!
